📌 Highlights from the Record:

• I am publicly sharing the schedule of Yasin Malik’s meetings in the U.S. from June 26 to 29, detailing the individuals he met and those who accompanied him.
• During the Clinton administration, Yasin Malik’s letter to Secretary of State Madeleine Albright received an official response from Assistant Secretary Karl Inderfurth. That reply was faxed to me for onward delivery.
• The delegation accompanying Yasin Malik in meetings with U.S. officials included Dr. Meraj Din Munshi, Farooq Siddiqi, Altaf Qadri, Majid Tramboo, Usman Rahim, and myself. At the White House, during a meeting with the Deputy National Security Advisor, Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai also joined.
• I retain records of emails and direct meetings with Wajahat Habibullah concerning the peace process. Yasin Malik’s affidavit specifically references a meeting at Habibullah’s residence, attended by then Opposition Leader Dr. Manmohan Singh and Najma Heptulla.

During a meeting, a Member of Parliament had asked about my region in Jammu and Kashmir and the level of development in different areas. It was clear there was a deeper meaning behind his questions. Now, after thirty years, the growing demand for independence in all regions of Jammu Kashmir is becoming increasingly evident. Our Jammu and Kashmir , its beauty and its sovereignty is a precious gift from God, and we cannot simply give it away to any neighbor.

“The Unfulfilled Aspirations of the People of Kashmir: Demand for Independence”

Introduction:
The 5th of January 1949 holds a somber significance for the 20 million people of Kashmir. It marks a black day in our history, as it was the day when India and Pakistan reached an agreement to divide our homeland. However, as the people of Kashmir, we wholeheartedly reject this agreement and demand the right to independence. This essay delves into the reasons behind our rejection and our unwavering demand for self-determination.

Body:

1. The Betrayal of Self-Determination:

On the 5th of January 1949, a new resolution was obtained from the United Nations through bilateral negotiations between India and Pakistan. Regrettably, instead of upholding our unfettered and unconditional right to self-determination, which was granted in the UN Charter and the resolution of 13th August 1948, this agreement served as a mere charade. It was a ploy to gain votes from the people of Kashmir, rather than genuinely considering their aspirations.

2. A Conspiracy to Divide:

The restriction of options to only voting for accession to either India or Pakistan is a clear violation of our fundamental rights. The majority of the Kashmiri population has consistently expressed their desire for independence, yet this option was deliberately excluded. It is an injustice that both governments have conspired to divide our homeland, disregarding the aspirations and wishes of the Kashmiri people.

3. The Demand for Independence:

The people of Kashmir firmly reject the imposed right of self-determination and demand the recognition and granting of the right to independence by the United Nations. We deserve the freedom to determine our own destiny and shape the future of our land. The denial of this right has resulted in years of conflict, violence, and human rights abuses, causing immense suffering for the Kashmiri population.

4. International Intervention and Responsibility:

The international community, especially the United Nations, holds the responsibility to rectify this grave injustice and ensure that the voice of the Kashmiri people is heard and respected. Granting us the right of independence is not only a matter of justice for our long-suffering population but also a crucial step towards regional stability and peace. The international community must recognize the urgency to address the Kashmir dispute and prioritize the aspirations of its people.

Conclusion:

The people of Kashmir stand united in their rejection of the India-Pakistan agreement and demand the recognition and respect of their right to self-determination.
