@AriFleischer But... the constitution vests that decision in a “small group in DC” (also known as our elected representatives). Plus there’s the 14th amendment...
Anyway, you both-sidesed the insurrection, so I know this is just more bad faith from a partisan hack. Why don’t you just go away?
I’m glad everyone seems appropriately horrified right now, but not looking forward to the inevitable return to “Sure, the president says some pretty controversial things, but Joe Biden once paraphrased Neil Kinnock.”
@SemiEmily Embarrassed to be represented by one of them, and absolutely livid at their contribution to these circumstances. But hey, at least Ted got to write a snarky tweet both-siding Beto and Josh got his photo op.
When Congress reassembles:
1. Republicans should immediately withdraw their remaining objections and allow for expeditious certification of Biden's victory.
2. The House should immediately proceed to vote on Articles of Impeachment against President Trump.
In that order.
Yep. Another one of those days I’ll never forget. Feel like this is going to be another day that changes all the ones that come after it, and not for the better.
This is one of those moments in American history where people will ask where you were and what you felt as it was unfolding. Haven’t felt this since September 11, 2001.
@superkatt6 Just messaged it. Couldn’t get anyone to run it (alas, it is too bad I no longer have connections in the newspaper industry and, uh, that newspapers are no longer a thing) but I think it holds up.
Seeing all the recent recollections of trauma induced after the initial airing of “The Day After” made me wonder how many of those folks have ever seen “Threads.” It should be required viewing in high school, so that you realize that “On the Beach” had the *happy* ending.
@superkatt6 (On a tangentially related note - did I ever send you my advocacy piece for making Puerto Rico a captive domestic supply source for pharmaceuticals and PPE? Puerto Rican economic stimulus, and a domestic industrial base for critical goods. Win-win!)
@superkatt6 Didn’t it take like two days to devise the vaccine? All we have to do is streamline approvals, testing and production, and baby we got a stew going.
@AeroDork @peter90402 As I recall, the cover story for the fighters being in *exactly* the right place at *exactly* the right time wasn’t great, right? Wasn’t Churchill pissed that the US hadn’t concocted a better explanation?
@superkatt6 While all that is clearly going NOT GREAT I feel like maybe we’re at the beginning of the end? The vaccines seem pretty promising and have reinforced my belief that medical technology will eventually solve all problems (tho at 40 harder to be sure that I will personally benefit)
@superkatt6 While I do still re-read it like once a year (and wish the female characters weren’t all so one-dimensional), I’m cautiously optimistic that my ever-present background anxiety about the prospect of nuclear war will lessen in, oh, let’s say about 40 days or so.
The constitution is basically a transactional lawyer’s worst nightmare. Imagine a contract you wrote in a hurry in a crowded, hot conference room in Philadelphia and 250 years later people are *still parsing every word, clause and comma*.
Just shoot me now.
