6 AI tools i'd give a friend trying to make their first dollar online.
what each one is for + a tip to actually get something useful out of it:
i'm 19, studying at uconn, and building:
- Surplus: a weight-gain app
- Viralinn: my AI creative platform
here's the stack ↓
Codex → computer use
files, apps, research, and the random computer work around building a business.
give it a finished outcome:
“organize these creative assets by project, flag duplicates, and prepare a folder i can hand to an editor.”
include what “done” means. ask it to check the result.
Grok Bot → research + content agents
i have focused bots for YouTube, personal Instagram, and Surplus Instagram, coordinated by a creative director.
give each one a specific deliverable:
“find 5 relevant posts, explain their hooks, and suggest versions i can make with the footage i already have.”
audience + examples + constraints = a much better brief.
Claude / Claude Code → building apps
turn the idea into small flows you can actually test.
“build the flow where someone enters their goal and gets their first recommendation.”
get that working. click through it. fix what breaks. then add the next piece.
keep your project context and rules in the repo so you're building on the same foundation each session.
Nano Banana → images
bring a reference for the composition, lighting, or style you want.
then change one variable per version.
same product, different background.
same composition, different headline.
same character, different setting.
save the prompt AND reference when something works. you're building a reusable creative library.
Viralinn → AI video + creative assets
this one's mine :)
before generating, write 3 angles for the same product:
→ the problem someone recognizes
→ the product doing something useful
→ the outcome you're helping them work toward
plan the shots for each angle.
now you have several creative concepts to test, with a reason behind each generation.
Wispr Flow → dictation
talk through the context before asking your agent to work:
“here's what i'm building.
here's who it's for.
here's what already exists.
here's where i'm stuck.
here's what a good result looks like.”
edit the transcript, then send it.
especially useful when explaining the idea feels harder than having it.
that's the stack i'd start with.
i'm sharing the actual builds, workflows, and creative experiments behind Surplus + Viralinn here.
save this for your next build.
Surplus is finally live on the App Store.
it had already been on TestFlight for weeks. getting from there to a public launch took longer than i expected.
one build got rejected because the paywall said
“1 month free,”
but Apple’s purchase screen showed the annual charge starting that day. the reviewer also couldn’t find the weekly plan.
so i fixed the paywall, submitted another build, and went back to staring at “Waiting for Review.”
the idea behind Surplus was a lot simpler. if you’re struggling to eat enough to gain weight, knowing how many calories you’re short only gets you so far. you still have to figure out what to eat next.
as i built it, i started writing down the decisions i kept coming back to:
→ what do i actually need to ask someone during setup?
→ how do i turn their weight-gain goal into a daily calorie target?
→ where does AI help, and what should the app calculate the same way every time?
whenever i struggled to explain a flow, it usually needed simplifying. early TestFlight users helped me see where that was happening.
App Review made me look just as closely at what the app was promising people.
now i want to see where people get stuck and which meal suggestions they actually use. i’ll keep sharing what i learn as i build.

i'm 19.
uconn student. i build AI agents, MCP servers and automations, and i'm building surplus + viralinn.
going to post everything i learn: the tools, the workflows, the mistakes.
if you're building with agents, say hi 👋
@kaiargus Yeah got to stay on top of the game lol
Surplus is basically a calorie tracking agent that texts you to remind you to eat and helps you bulk up and build muscle.
I just launched it but if you want to try it out, I would love some feedback 🙌
“Just eat more” sounds easy until you’re juggling classes
and realize you barely ate all day.
I’m building Surplus to help answer two questions:
how much more do I need, and what should I eat next?
Less calorie math. More actual food.
@aribk24 Hey @aribk24 I’ve been building https://t.co/FCCx9ZuDDc helping other saas and ecom teams scale. I think there are bigger opportunity here that I haven’t even tapped into yet
but sent you a dm would love to chat either way
