BREAKING: Pope Leo XIV enrages MAGA world by elevating the bishop who REFUSED the Republican demands to deny Communion to President Joe Biden.

And it gets even better...

The pope has appointed Bishop Mark O’Connell to be the new bishop of Albany, a position of great prominence and influence within the Catholic Church. He previously served as an Auxiliary Bishop in the Archdiocese of Boston.

O’Connell was at the center of a media firestorm in 2001 when he boldly and publicly disagreed with some of his fellow bishops who were supporting a document that would have resulted in denying Communion to pro-choice politicians. He urged his fellow clergy to focus less on "who should be denied" and instead fix their attention on "who should receive" it.

O’Connell released a statement in which he acknowledged that Biden "is a Catholic" who "regularly attends Mass" and holds "many views in accord with the Magisterium of the Church" even if his political beliefs are out of sync with the teachings of the Church on the issue of abortion.

He added that supporting the document in question would likely "lead to more and more opportunity for some bishops and writers to further polarize our people."

"As a priest and bishop giving Holy Communion, I accept the humble 'Amen' of our Catholics as they approach the Altar and I leave judgment on specific individuals to the private conversations with their pastors," his statement concluded.

O’Connell's argument came from a place of humility and deeply examined theology and he stated that in some sense "we are all unworthy to receive" God's grace. This kind of introspection is anathema to MAGA supporters, who see their every act and whim as justified by God himself, no matter how cruel or destructive it might be.

Republicans have been trying to politicize the issue of Communion for decades to push their claim that "real Christians" can't be Democrats because the Democratic Party is pro-choice. The fact that prominent Democrats like Joe Biden and Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi are devout Catholics infuriates them.

Meanwhile, the so-called "Christians" that populate the Republican Party reject the teachings of Jesus Christ on a daily basis. They support brutal, fascist crackdowns on migrants despite the Church's calls to love the stranger, all while slashing crucial healthcare and services for the poor.
