Today I've worked on one of the most gorgeous Autochrome plates I've seen. It was taken in colour about 116 years ago, and it depicts Suzanne Lumière - daughter of Louis Lumière who co-invented the Autochrome process. She is seated in a woodland glade, backlit with stunning depth of field, eating a bowl of cherries whilst wearing a striking red cardigan which complements the colour of the fruit beautifully. It is art, romanticism and technical brilliance rolled into one. They don't get much better than this.
It was taken using the family's early colour glass-plate process and isn't colourised.

The gorgeous, historic fireplace at The Wrestlers pub in Highgate, North London which we visited for @PubHistoryTours amazingly, has a large 16th-century style hearth complimented by an old bread oven and a black iron pot.

The pub itself was rebuilt post WW1 (1921), but conservation groups suggest that this fireplace and the woodwork surrounding it date back to the site's older 1500s origins.

Just imagine how many people, this stunner kept warm and fed over the centuries. Some things don't age or lose their use. In fact, time has added to their worth, and overall wonder. Imagine we preserved more like this instead of replacing them with a world of hypermodernity.
