@finucy Avoid America, they have a mix of ‘celebrities’ and normal people. Way too much like reality tv. Australia is similar. UK is pretty good and there are 3 seasons, start with season 2
There are lots of myths around levodopa treatment. One particularly tenacious one is that levodopa should work quickly if it will work at all - actually it can take 6-8 weeks of gentle uptitration to know that it is beneficial #BGSconf

Only 42% of the general public are aware that dementia is a terminal illness. 9 in 10 people are not aware that dementia is the leading cause of death in the UK. #bgsconf
Well done. Delirium as a preventable cause of dementia deserves study. Much of it arises unrecognized from unnecessarily hazardous routine care of older patients who live with frailty. Polypharmacy, untreated pain, immobilization, and chronic indifference all take a costly toll.
Flowchart from @NHSEngland.
“Do not perform urine dipsticks: Dipsticks become more unreliable with increasing age over 65 years. By 80 years half of older adults in care, and most with a urinary catheter, will have bacteria present in the bladder/urine without an infection.”

As the dust settles on latest NI election.
Consider this.
People on waiting lists in NI are 2½ times more likely to wait OVER a year than in ROI or Scotland, and 11 times more likely than England.
Today DOH announces £35 million CUT to scheme to reduce waits.
Just bonkers 🤷♀️
Harrowing words from a senior emergency medicine doctor showing the despair at not being able to provide the level of care every doctor hopes to for their patients. Every doctor, nurse & HCW can empathise with this right now.

@marie55941148@mlchealth@BBCNewsNI@BelfastTrust An excellent acute care at home team already exists in the Belfast trust. As is the case with all areas of healthcare, staffing and funding issues mean they can’t take everyone.
A major incident was declared at Antrim Area Hospital last night, @BBCNewsNI understands. Declaring such an incident is rare & a last resort. It means there are too many patients for staff to deal with safely. A meeting continues among senior staff.
