This morning’s outage is being handled in a way that makes absolutely no sense. Topstep’s own status page states the outage lasted at least 43 minutes, yet losses are only being voided from 8:45–9:15 AM CT, a 30 minute window that doesn’t even match their minimum reported downtime. Traders who were live at the time with extensive video evidence from thousands of users were affected as early as 8:30 and as late as 11:00, but this is being completely ignored. On top of that, Trenton has stated that only trades flattened between 8:45–9:15 will be voided and that entry time is irrelevant, which is illogical how are traders supposed to flatten positions if the platform is down? This policy also unfairly rewards luck: accounts with larger size or less drawdown were liquidated faster and got compensated, while others affected during the outage but liquidated after 9:15 received nothing. The proposed “solution” is to contact customer support, which has been consistently unresponsive, delayed for days, or outright ghosting traders, and often seems disconnected from how the platform even functions. To make matters worse, Michael Patak appears to be posting ChatGPT generated responses on Twitter, and Trenton is doing the same in official status updates, which only reinforces how impersonal and dismissive this entire situation feels. Michael Patak has not addressed this in over 10 hours, we’re now on day two of outages, and there has been zero transparency about the root cause or what’s being done to prevent this going forward. The team’s vagueness and lack of accountability is unacceptable traders deserve real answers.
