I've nothing personal against Shamika Ravi. But saying poverty has almost been eradicated in India and justifying all economic disasters is not expected from Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council.

I don't know how many of you remember Montek Singh Ahluwalia. He was in a similar position in the previous governments. He never used to dress up anything. He was always factual and tried his best to find workable solutions. As a technocrat, his communications were never political.

We need people who acknowledge problems and then work towards addressing them.

He is Shri Lavkesh Bajaj. He is the owner of the Hotel in Hauz Rani, Delhi. Here 21 lives lost in fire.

He had permission only for 6 rooms. But he extended to 26 rooms.

When the police questioned him he said ‘Delhi mein sab chalta hai (everything goes in Delhi)’.

He also said he had increased the number of rooms in the hotel because the business was generating good profits.

However, Police said Bajaj also claimed he did not have enough time to personally manage the hotel, so he hired staff to handle all operations.

A Delhi Fire Services (DFS) official has said that sir Bajaj installed multiple wooden and plastic frames inside as well as outside the building as part of its decor, increasing the combustible load.

The Hotel also had no NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the fire department.

🚨 Statins reduce the risk of heart attack by 25 to 35% in high-risk patients. Someone told you the real number is 1%. But the data says otherwise.

That "1%" number is not a lie. It is just incomplete. And the way it gets used online is costing lives.

Here is what the science actually says.

💓 The Absolute vs. Relative Risk Confusion

When someone says statins "only" reduce risk by 1%, they are quoting absolute risk reduction. When the trials report 25 to 35%, they are quoting relative risk reduction. Both numbers come from the same data. One tells the full story. One does not.

The absolute risk reduction depends entirely on your baseline risk. If your 10-year risk of a heart attack is 20%, a 30% relative risk reduction means your risk drops to 14%. That is 6 out of every 100 patients who do not have a heart attack. Those are real people. Those are not small numbers.

🔬 Why Baseline Risk Changes Everything

- Low-risk patient. Absolute benefit is small. That is real.

- High-risk patient. Absolute benefit is large. That is also real.

- Dismissing statins based on low-risk data and applying it to high-risk patients is not science. It is a category error.

- The people pushing the "1% myth" are doing exactly that.

💓 What The Trials Actually Show

✅ 4S TRIAL (simvastatin): total mortality reduced 30% in patients with established coronary disease

✅ WOSCOPS (pravastatin): first heart attack reduced 31% in high-risk primary prevention patients

✅ JUPITER (rosuvastatin): major cardiovascular events reduced 44% in patients with elevated CRP and normal LDL

✅ HEART PROTECTION STUDY (simvastatin): vascular events reduced 24% across 20,536 patients

And JUPITER changed everything. It showed benefit in patients who would have been dismissed under old criteria.

🩺 I Am A Cardiologist

I am a board-certified cardiologist.

I have hundreds of patients on high-intensity statin therapy.

I watch their LDL drop from 160 to under 70 mg/dL. I watch their risk profiles change in 12 weeks. I do not guess at outcomes. I measure them.

The patients who come in quoting the "1% fact" from social media are the same patients whose plaques are quietly progressing while they wait for a "natural" solution.

⚠️ The Scam Running Underneath This Myth

❌ Berberine will not save you.

❌ Red yeast rice at unregulated doses will not save you.

❌ Fish oil alone will not save you.

The tools with the strongest data are unsexy, free, and require your participation.

But for high-risk patients, statins are part of that toolkit. The data on that is not a matter of opinion.

🔸 Who This Matters For Most

People with LDL above 190 mg/dL.

People with diabetes and one additional risk factor.

People with established atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

People with a 10-year ASCVD risk above 7.5%.

For these patients, the absolute risk reduction from statins is not 1%. It is large, consistent, and replicated across decades of randomized controlled trial data.

A patient who understands their actual baseline risk, gets on appropriate therapy, and follows up consistently can cut their 10-year heart attack risk in half within 6 to 12 months of treatment. That is the difference between a preventable heart attack and a long life.

❤️ Bottom line:

This is not a debate about whether statins are perfect. They are not. It is a debate about whether you understand how to read a risk statistic. The "1% number" is not wrong. It is just pulled from low-risk populations and used to dismiss a therapy that saves lives in high-risk ones. Across 4S, WOSCOPS, JUPITER, and HEART PROTECTION STUDY alone, the evidence covers more than 50,000 patients. Know your baseline risk. Ask your doctor for your ASCVD score. Do not let a social media statistic make a clinical decision for you. The question is no longer whether statins work. The question is whether you know if you are the patient who needs one.
