I don’t like the term “teacher shortage” because there really isn’t a shortage of people who want to teach, there’s just a shortage of people willing to spend 70% of their instruction time on classroom management saying “You guys… you guys!!!” 500 times a day for $42,000 a year
There is a belief that teachers should handle student disrespect with angelic patience.
Wrong.
Respect is a two-way street, and teachers deserve dignity, not endless tolerance for bad behavior.
Limiting school suspensions is not the answer.
When people argue that suspensions “don’t help the student who misbehaves,” they often forget about the students who are there to learn.
Negative behavior impacts the entire class, not just the one student causing the disruption.
Nobody talks about what it costs a school when a good teacher walks out the door for good. The kids lose the relationship. The department loses the institutional knowledge. The next hire starts from zero. And everyone pretends that's just how it goes.
If consistent disruptive behavior isn’t addressed by administration, what message does that send to the rest of the class?
Students learn just as much from what we tolerate as from what we teach.
If you think teachers have it easy, you’re in luck. America is currently short more than 400,000 teachers. Give it a try! 😏
Or give subbing a try…to get a taste.
We’ve created a school system where the students who follow the rules get the least attention… because all the energy goes into managing the ones who don’t.
You know who LOVES discipline in schools?
The 25 other kids in a classroom who AREN'T cussing out their teacher, want to learn, and want the misbehaving kid kicked out of class
If the shooting was at a synagogue, anti-Semitism would be blamed.
If the shooting was at a mosque, Islamophobia would be blamed.
But because the shooting was at a Christian school, it's the "guns".
If one immigrates to any given country, they must respect the laws and culture of that country and contribute to that country to the best of their ability, doing no harm.
That applies to ALL countries.
It is shocking to me that so many left wing politicians attack the idea of prayer in response to a tragedy.
Literally no one thinks prayer is a substitute for action.
We pray because our hearts are broken and we believe that God is listening.
