Much has been made of the recent article by @alanckwan in @NatureCVR regarding the increased risk of #POTS after both COVID vaccination and infection. https://t.co/dFvdFPEll2
@POTSActivist This post is based on a review study that is almost entirely based on Kwan et al. Kwan et al had a major error and has since been corrected. I discuss the issues with it here:

Further proof that sloppy research spreads for years after correction.

@CDCMMWR If we had a competent public health establishment, they'd take a real-world finding of massive negative efficacy of a vaccine as concerning. Instead, we get more cheerleading in @CDCMMWR .
If trust is what you want, stop publishing clumsy propaganda.
In case you though @CDCMMWR couldn't sink any lower, you owe it to yourself to read this whopper of an mpox "study" from LA County. Finding: 56 people +mpox during study period. 43% of them fully/partially vaccinated for mpox. Context: <1% of LAC is vaxxed for mpox.
A new MMWR shows that mpox transmission increased during the summer of 2023 compared to previous months in Los Angeles County. Most patients (71%) were not fully vaccinated, and one patient was hospitalized. Read the full report: https://t.co/jigbnm1ePq
So if 1% overall were vaccinated but 43% of those that got sick were vaccinated, then what is the vaccine efficacy (VE)?
It's obviously less than 0.
How does -92% sound?
Fortunately, that doesn't disqualify it from getting a breathless write-up in @CDCMMWR !
@CDCMMWR Let me get this straight. 29% of cases were fully vaccinated. Meanwhile, under 1% of LA County is fully vaccinated (https://t.co/1w0VOztoN9). Do I have to calculate VE for you?
@CedarsSinai@JAMANetworkOpen Kwan. The name is familiar. Is that the same Kwan that looked at POTS after COVID and vax, found no difference, yet claimed COVID is 5.35x worse? It's coming back to me now.

@nih_nhlbi @NatureCVR By the way, the original paper was corrected. You should amplify the correction since you so eagerly amplified the falsehood.
https://t.co/dFvdFPWuza
@vijayiyer312@NatureCVR@elonmusk In case you missed it, the fraudulent Kwan article has finally been corrected. Took 9 months. I guess that's the system working?
https://t.co/dFvdFPWuza
@CedarsSinai@ABC7 In light of your earlier amplification of Alan Kwan's fraudulent finding, would you care to amplify the fact that his article has finally been corrected? 5.35x is garbage, which was obvious if you read the paper.
https://t.co/dFvdFPWuza
@dysclinic@jama@Jacobs_Med_UB@ArturFedorowski I think it would be great if you corrected this miscarriage of science (which you contributed to). Apparently you finally agree with me since you have updated your editorial, so what is holding you back? Show us that the peer-review system isn't hopelessly broken.
@JAMA_current@RitaRubin Turns out the original paper was bogus and has finally been corrected (took 9 months). Since you amplified the original falsehood without confirming the arithmetic, care to amplify the correction as well?
https://t.co/dFvdFPWuza
@EricTopol@ArturFedorowski@NatRevCardiol The original paper was garbage and has finally been corrected (took 9 months). You amplified an obviously false (arguably fraudulent) finding. You owe it to us to amplify the correction.
https://t.co/dFvdFPWuza
@WesElyMD By the way, the original paper was garbage and they've finally corrected it (took 9 months). The much-celebrated "POTS is 5x worse after COVID than vax" is simply not true. This paper fails at science, but is succeeds at being a cautionary tale. https://t.co/dFvdFPWuza
The editorial by @dysclinic and @ArturFedorowski has also been corrected. In fact, even the title has changed! To remind you, this was the breathless cheerleading that insisted the COVID vaccines were "worth a shot." Now: "more studies are needed."

It has been about 9 months since the publication of a very influential and widely-circulated article about the connection between COVID infection/vaccines and POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome).
I discuss its issues here:

@NatureCVR Now that you have addressed the egregious error in your pages (Kwan et al), it's time to finish the job. I suggest your cover art from December 2022 needs a redo.
In fact, Kwan et al is a 99% percenter when it comes to Altmetrics. Out of ~460,000 articles in Altmetrics, it is ranked 82nd. As Terry Pratchett said: "A lie can spread halfway around the world before the truth gets its boots on."
It also bears mention that the Kwan et al article is the most influential one ever published by @NatureCVR, by a factor of 20. This is a screenshot from their own website. If you can't read those numbers, Kwan et al has an Altmetrics score of 2854. 2nd place has 146.
I should also mention that the original article in @NatureCVR has been corrected. All of the bluster about "COVID is 5x worse than vax" is neutered. They even changed figure 3, which I had previously "tweaked" for them here.
