Checking in for @Eurostar at either London or Paris is now so disagreeable that you might as well go to an airport. The dream of hop on, hop off European train travel is dead, it seems (from the UK at least)
They defund the NHS so it looks like it’s failed. Then we have to turn to privatisation and they cash in. They close all safe routes for asylum seekers entitled to our help under the human rights convention we signed up to. Then they blame asylum seekers themselves for crossing in boats and hold them up as racist bait in hotels while they wait years to be processed. They do this because they know capitalising on racism and attacking vulnerable people is a vote winner, even though it shouldn’t be. People die as a result of their inept policies. They blatantly throw parties and socialise during a pandemic whilst making it illegal for us to do so. They capitalise on the pandemic with commercial nepotism and corruption. They empower criminals and spread hate to distract from their BS. They attack the legal professionals protecting our rights by calling them lefty lawyers. They put inflation through the roof. They make house ownership an impossible dream whilst causing rents to rise everywhere. They increase energy bills to insane amounts, whilst passing laws to allow sewage to be dumped in our rivers and waters and discrediting any scientist who points out environmental or climate crises. They abdicate all responsibility for the bonkers mess of Brexit, the gift that keeps taking, and burden taxpayers with hare-brained unlawful multimillion pound deals to deport people to Rwanda with no right of appeal. They and their supporters have done so much damage to this country. Don’t let them completely destroy it. Let’s vote them out when we can… They are the worst of us.
“Thing which takes longer, takes longer” - you wouldn’t have thought someone who’d made it to Home Secretary would need time explained to them, yet here we are. Mind you, the replies saying Labour have no intention to improve matters are also right.
So, let’s get this right. When we were in the EU, British passports didn’t need to be stamped. Now we’ve left the EU, they do need to be stamped. Stamping passports takes longer than not stamping passports. So how exactly is citing Brexit as a cause of these delays “unfair”?
1/10 Wages are struggling to keep up with costs. Covid and Ukraine are factors but to explain what’s happening, we also need to look further back – to Britain’s levels of wage growth, productivity, investment and inequality. This is what we found. First - wage growth has stalled
Here we now are with our govt applauding itself for giving NI an inferior version of the privileged status the whole country used to enjoy before the Tories took it from us. The rest of us just get to reflect on the full extent of our loss.
What an epic and unforgivable fuck-up.
Given the revelations in the Guardian today about the £3.3bn profit scandal at British Gas/Centrica it's worth considering *why* privatisation of utilities simply doesn't work. Many people aren't familiar with the term 'elasticity of demand' (some are) but it describes... 1/16
@grettaschifano a massive thank you for your wonderfully detailed blog on applying for Italian citizenship through marriage. I'm doing the same, and you've been an enormous help.
@chensonmusic Do what you think is right, not what you think someone else will think is right. That way at least one person will like it. Took me 10 years to have that realisation as a music editor.
I love everything about this, from the name Jon Pigeon onwards. Is it mean to have wished for a tiny lick of offscreen flame as the pigeon got incinerated by the jet trail, though?
@chensonmusic Closely connected to the "Feynmann Technique" (https://t.co/QH7hhbZZg7) which summarises as "if you can't explain it to a 12 year old, you probably don't really understand it"
