The Writers Guild of America condemns Scott Pelley's firing at "60 Minutes" amid CBS News' "cruel and needless layoffs."
"In the past year, CBS has enacted cruel and needless layoffs across the organization and shuttered CBS News Radio. In addition, based on a string of public reporting and confidential reports from WGAE members, it is clear that CBS brass is engaged in a near-constant level of editorial interference that would have previously been unthinkable... These assaults on CBS News, an institution of American journalism for nearly a century, are more than mere ideological interference with the news. They display a profound contempt for the journalism profession, for our members who have dedicated their lives to informing the public about the world, and for the ethics that underpin true journalism, chief among them honesty, integrity, and objectivity."

The Revolt Inside 60 Minutes Just Got Worse.
Legendary correspondent Steve Kroft is now accusing CBS leadership of "journalistic interference."
His verdict?
"It was a slap in the face to everybody who has worked there."
Notice the pattern.
Scott Pelley says he was stonewalled.
Sharon Alfonsi says Pelley was fired for asking questions.
Now Steve Kroft says management is interfering with journalism.
At some point, this stops looking like a personnel dispute.
And starts looking like a newsroom rebellion.
NEWS: "60 Minutes" EP Nick Bilton emails staff, commits to editorial independence of the program, praises Lesley Stahl, Bill Whitaker and Jon Wertheim.
Full memo:
New from me & Peter Kiefer. Nick Bilton is making $2.5 million for his new “60 Minutes” gig. Sources tell us that salary is $1 million more than what “60 Minutes” veteran Tanya Simon was pulling down for the same job before she was ousted by Bari Weiss.

This is David Ellison's "60 Minutes" now. Bari Weiss directed the housecleaning, and Nick Bilton signed the letter telling Scott Pelley he was fired, but the Paramount CEO owns the decisions and the disconcerting fallout. Some new reporting here: https://t.co/N031BVbhMU
BREAKING: Donald Trump calls JB Pritzker a “dumb, stupid slob.”
Just a reminder that JB Pritzker just balanced the Illinois budget with a $0 deficit AND has signed relief for groceries and gas.
Trump is a 5th grade bully who apparently needs to look in the mirror.
Don Lemon: “Bari Weiss is murdering CBS News. She’s helping to murder and end journalism and the First Amendment and she should be very aware of that especially as someone who owned a news organization called The Free Press”
According to @CGasparino: "When CBS News Editor-in-chief Bari Weiss has a big, tough decision to make, she runs it by her boss, Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison this way: “What’s your tolerance for pain?”
Ellison’s answer, almost invariably I am told by people close to the matter, can be summed up in one word: “High.”

Nearby high pressure will keep skies mostly clear through the first part of the weekend. An approaching cold front will then bring a return of rain chances to the area late Saturday night into Sunday. Temperatures generally trend warmer each day through Saturday. #kywx#ekywx
Bill Owens, who resigned last year as EP of '60 Minutes,' said in a speech just now that his former colleagues at the program "were fired by people who don’t even know what we do."
Scott Pelley on being fired: “I have been in combat in Afghanistan. I have been in combat in Iraq. I have been in the war zone in Ukraine multiple times, risking my life and the happiness of my family because of my devotion to the broadcast.”

"Mr. Pelley also wrote that senior managers at CBS News had pressured him to insert bias into stories for “60 Minutes” this past season, though he did not provide details about specific segments."
Pretty important part of the story. Maybe *the* most important part. CBS = new Fox
