I had a meeting with the computer teachers in my department the other day to discuss AI technology such as ChatGPT and Bard. There’s no doubt that by the time our students leave school there will be dozens of new occupations created by this new technology. At the same time, some jobs will no longer exist.

We all agreed that it is important we teach the students the possibility of AI and how they can use it as a tool in their every day life. Maybe even inspire them to work in the technology field when they leave school.

In the Computer Center we are already using AI to help us with the E-learning websites. For example, in the attached photo, AI not only wrote the story based on a word list we entered, but also wrote the questions and created the picture. Next we will be adding AI generated audio for these stories based on the accent of one of our teachers.

ChatGPT and Bard are far from being perfect but their ability is increasing at a fast pace. We’ve already identified many ways we can use it for language learners during this academic year. Though I think by then end of this year I will be bowled over by the technological advances.

It is an exciting time to be alive.

The impact of creativity in prompting ChatGPT is limitless. It feels to be more of an art than a science.

Great "programmers" of the future will in part have to be artists. Perhaps they always were, but now the method and medium of creation has become much more accessible.

Undoubtedly Appalachian, but similar the South and some will claim it, too, moreso in the Southern most counties. Source: am from WV.
