I teach college and here's the thing:
Writing is a materialized form of thinking. It is not just a way to record thoughts. It is a concrete route to understanding.
If one uses a machine to write, they cease thinking. They abandon a route to understanding. Not good!
@NYCMayor So insane that in America, the government is setting price controls. The stupidity of that has been proven again and again. Markets work. Government control destroys.
@OpenRoadOpenMic@EsotericCD They filmed it for use in b&w and color, yes. But they only filmed it once, so the b&w version certainly was "decolorized."
@EdWhelanEPPC The Equal Protection Clause did not give women the right to vote but it did create a Constitutional right to homosexual sodomy. Kennedy was terrible.
@kausmickey It's not supposed to be a program for the poor. It is supposed to be universal. Everyone pays in, everyone gets benefits. If you pay in more, you get more benefits. That was the deal, and it should not be undone lightly.
@kausmickey The EITC is considred welfare by anyone familiar with it. It's welfare with a work requirement. And it is only "popular" in the sense that the general public has no idea it exists.
@HannahGraceLong The look of THX 1138 holds up much better than, say, "Logan's Run" in large part because the actors are bald and not sporting 70s style hair.
@HannahGraceLong The irony is that the use of "current" hairstyles in period films (or sci-fi) causes the film to appear dated in later decades. The original audience tends not to notice then current hairstyles, but a 60s hairstyle in a Western (or in Kubrick's 2001) is jarring to audiences now.
@DDBCelts@GlennDOrdway Vuc was about strengthening the front line -- with a big who could also shoot 3's. He didn't work out, but it wasn't a dumb move.
@ejpreston@GreenPlusAnE The system was designed and sold to the American people on the concept that benefits were income based. If you made more money, you paid more in, and you got more out. That was the deal. To change that now is a betrayal.
