Whether or not this facility was the correct vacant facility to go with is certainly a point you can debate. That is not the discussion I’m interested in.

I’m certainly no expert on where the guards are pulled from or the ICE Civil Detention Network and didn’t come here to battle with you on those points either.

I am pointing out that your original position assumes that inmates are to be held here for months and years on end. While that may be true for several, your math in the original post is misleading. Many of these inmates will be here for less than 15-20 days which completely skews your numbers.

If we are to analyze the cost of this detention facility, I think we should try and represent things as fair as possible to enhance the effectiveness of the analysis.

“Housing” the worst of the worst, to me, implies permanent residence. This is where I disagree with the premise of your original post. I’ve always heard it described as a place to detain the worst of the worst, which speaks to a temporary visit.

This changes the math in your original post.

Alligator Alcatraz is designed to be a funnel out of the USA, which is why it’s location on an airstrip probably makes it even more advantageous to the purpose it was built for than being surrounded by dangerous wildlife. The surrounding wildlife is a bonus.

I agree with the second part of your response - there should be similar facilities all over the nation to speed up the process and ensure the criminal in Georgia can be ushered home from a facility in Georgia, and Alligator Alcatraz is a blueprint for that to happen.
