@SanAntonioTim @MrColeThompson The hopefulness has to be the timeline. Nationals fired their Pobo last year in July and hired a new one in Mid/late September. A new GM will have barely a month or so after the season is ended to get things accomplished. Hopefully this avoids a delay on that end.

@ProspectSpencer I’m just not overly convinced calling up Meyers is the solution. Hoping Refsnyder can be a Crawford box merchant like he was with the green monster just seems like the more competitive gamble.

@SanAntonioTim @ryanbokros People will get mad about not making marginal trades for big names and then wonder why we can’t make the big trades like Adley or hypothetical Stowers. You need a deadline like this to build up the ammo to make a big trade without burning everything down.

@ProspectSpencer The reality of a lame duck GM and Coach. Nationals overhauled a lot next year, I assume anyone who comes in will want to do that. And Crane should want to get a new GM and Manager the freedom to do so.

@SanAntonioTim The San Francisco Giants and Posey are literally the "Bagwell Scare", DB doesn't deserve the same criticism. Chances are he was never going to succeed here post Luhnow/Click without a rebuild.

@ProspectSpencer Depending on what the Yankees do at the deadline. I wouldn’t be shocked if Boston and dare I say Tampa would push chips in with a weak AL west and both could use Pena.

Yankees are probably your ideal trade partner but Lombard will keep that from happening

@AstrosFuture @SanAntonioTim That’s the thing, the only way DB saves his job in my mind is convincing Crane of what the right direction looks like. If he can buy and sell and at this point sniff the post season with a hot finish. He could save his job.

@SanAntonioTim @ryanbokros @JoeTHRILLA77004 To be fair I’ve lost faith in DB mostly from an uncreative approach to trades in the past off season(who knows how much of fault he is for that), and questionable roster decisions. But he’s not really a villain and much of this was inevitable.

@SanAntonioTim @ryanbokros @JoeTHRILLA77004 Who ever replaces Dana will get credited as our savior due to a short rebuild to field a competitive team for Altuve and Alvarez and the work DB did overhauling player development and drafting in Houston(yes the last two drafts were very good) but none were bad under DB.

Click still would have gotten fired at the end of the season. 2020-2022, provided Houston with so little prospect capital due to draft penalties and poor drafting. This was inevitable.

@ProspectSpencer If you have a good draft this year, you might just have a team that can survive the west in 2027 and 2028 and might have sustainable true contender status in 2029 and beyond. Addressing areas of need in the off season is a concern. and IDK if I trust Brown for any of this.

@ProspectSpencer Trading Hunter Brown has to occur in the 2027-2028 off season. And the target needs to be at least one position player hole that is still in place probably the OF that has team control through at least 2031 and at least one other high upside prospect in the farm.

@AstrosFuture 100%. People peddling this don’t understand the difference of farm systems between 2017-2019 and 2023 through now. You can’t part with Neyens and Alvarez. Those are the cornerstone prospects that will allow you too trade other prospects in the future.
