@Thermobolic reminds me of the older NLP guys who would try to install beliefs/viewpoints on the spot through certain language and cadence.
kind of dangerous when you think about the implications
I think it’s easy to point fingers because the field of psychology is pretty bad, especially when it comes to placating people for the regular fees and the pharmaceutical drugs they give out like candy.
I know because I had a family member who was on SSRIs her whole life and no one tried to help her get to the root of her sadness and depression. It was just “here. Take this and let us know how you feel in 3 months.”
But broad statements like “psychotherapy focuses exclusively on one’s self” is just not true all the time.
A good therapist will help someone see things in their life from an objective view and then give them frameworks to create real change, not just focus on making a victim out of them.
Even worse, these blanket statements turn people off from something that could be radically helpful to better understand the self.
As far as success rates, one can easily twist all of this and say the same about cultural and religious approaches. Nothing is without flaws.
I like to keep the idea in mind that culture is not always your friend. Neither are the dogmatic belief systems. Nor is the field of psychology.
Sometimes people need someone to talk to. And if that person happens to be a psychotherapist, so be it.
Better than holding it all in and never getting help because someone said psychotherapy will turn them into an egomaniac.
@digijordan Mindset is important. No doubt about it.
But there are some seriously dumb mofos who stumbled into something, who made a lucky bet, or inherited a biz that is easy to handle.
@TJ_Bongiorno These takes are signs we’re headed for extinction. Now, going out and having a social life is worth tweeting as some profound idea. God, we are fucked.
@tidemid Try running it through an old machine with Windows XP on it.
Meta can’t tell and treats it as an unimportant account because of how unstable the old OS is.
Another AI tell is when people insert a random day into their copy.
“This was just another Tuesday”
Not terrible I guess but a weird phrase.
No one says this irl.
@matthewvolkwyn It’s strange to me. I was doing this “creative strategist” work before it had a label. Just called it performance copywriting.
I don’t know any other way.
