@RichardBeasley’s staff charting Jk to Gr 5 students on Milestones document. Then sharing celebrations and wondering about some of their students. Some of the celebrations just made my heart smile.
A huge thank you to @RichardBeasley community who came out to our Open House. The face painting and ice cream sundaes were a huge hit. Thanks for having dinner with us & supporting the book fair. Don’t forget to send back in your math sheets for a chance to win a prize.
As educators we sometimes question the things we do, especially when we are so tired. Yesterday @RichardBeasley we had our pancake breakfast. The looks on the students faces told us why we do what we do. It was definitely worth all the work that went into it.
Canada is my home but I also had a home before I came here. My lived experiences matter. Paying homage to my birth country Barbados. Happy 57th independence.
@avivaloca@RSHWDSB Thanks Dunsiger. Will check it out. Was so happy to see the Dream Team back together this weekend. 😉 Looks like you had lots of fun.
@TimHortons do you have a new rule that you can only buy 2 gift cards at a certain time. Buying for staff but the Tim Hortons @ 3500 Dundas St East said that it is rush time so you can only get 2, but feel free to drive back around. What a turnoff!
Is the teacher doing the most if the talking in the math classroom? How are we changing this? We discussed the importance of math conversations. Staff did notice & wonder activities, open ended questions & math games. What math behaviours do you see? & hear?
@ RichardBeasley’s PA day we took time to delve into the mathematical processes. If they are the foundation for learning math why aren’t we focusing on them more. Staff had to level their students depending on the strategies. Hoping some will use them for progress reports.
@RichardBeasley’s PA day, each staff member randomly picked the names of 4 Ss from their class & completed a short questionnaire on them. How well do you know your Ss? Who they live with, who are their friends, their cultural background, what do they do outside of school, etc.
@RichardBeasley PA day we took some time to look at different literacy blocks, are we covering all 5 components of reading? What does structured literacy look like in our classrooms? Are we teaching explicit and systematic word identification & decoding strategies?
On Friday’s PA day we talked about tiered approach to instruction. If your data shows more Ss in tier 2 and not tier 1, how are you changing your instruction?
@avivaloca@LisaCorbett0261 Still miss the classroom sometimes. From time to time my teachers allow me to take part in teaching part of a lesson here or there. Was able to take the grade 2s from one of my 1/2 splits to do a writing activity with them. Loved it.
@LisaCorbett0261@avivaloca Me too. Actually I enjoy planning most of my staff meetings and PA days.Try to present most of my materials through the eyes of my staff. Doesn’t always work but I try. 🤣😉
