it's an incredibly sad day today for all of us here and across the marine mammal community worldwide as we say farewell to our beloved Simon Northridge who died suddenly on the 17th April. Simon leaves an amazing legacy of a career dedicated to the conservation of marine mammals
We've been having many conversations about the carbon footprint of travelling to conferences here at SMRU so a group of us decided to cycle to the @eimr2024 conference in Orkney to raise awareness of climate change and raise money for a good cause https://t.co/4BDCyTxgBd
Very pleased to see our paper taking a comparative approach to understand the evolution of menopause in toothed whales published today in @Nature . Couple of slides below talking through the key results but all the details here: https://t.co/L6Ri8DUWNE
Always useful to see pics of our tracked seals! The tag was put on this grey seal pup on the Isle of May in Nov 2023. Tags are glued to fur so fall off when the seal moults. They provide info on survival+movements, to inform environmentally sustainable management of our seas
📆SAVE THE DATE! #UKIRSC24 will be held on the 9th-12th January 2024 at the University of Liverpool 🐳🐬🦭 More info to follow shortly, keep an eye out!

The second youngest member of the 65s Northern Isles Community Orca pod born in the winter of 21/22 to pod matriarch '65' aka 'Razor'. Incredible to watch as mother and calf hunted just metres off the rocks at Kirkabister, Shetland. An unforgettable experience.
