The marine heatwave in the Mediterranean Sea continues to escalate, with water temperatures now up to 7.4°C (13.3°F) above normal.
Waters off the coast of Italy are now locally exceeding 28.5°C (83.3°F), downright tropical.
This is one of the worst June marine heatwaves on record for the region. Expect increased humidity on land and significant impacts on marine life.
Moving from being a dedicated reader of these reports to becoming part of their review process is something I could never have imagined. Extremely grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the science shaping our collective climate future.📚 (3/3)
I am honored to share that I have been selected to participate in the international review of the First Order Draft of the @IPCC_CH Seventh Assessment Report (AR7), WG I: The Physical Science Basis, through the Early Career Researcher Group Review initiative. (1/3)🧵⬇️
I will contribute to Chapter 6, “Global projections of Earth system responses across time scales”, with a focus on ocean circulation, sea-level rise, and biogeochemical cycles. 🌏🌊❄️ (2/3)
Europe is warming >2x as fast as the global average, reducing snow & ice cover. High air temperatures, drought, heatwaves & record ocean temperatures affect regions from the Arctic to the Mediterranean.

A comet and its faint tail blaze past Earth, the Milky Way rises like a river of stars, and vibrant auroras dance across the edge of our world. Every snapshot taken from the orbital outpost reminds us how breathtaking our cosmic neighborhood truly is.
Breaking: New study using observational constraints projects that the Atlantic Ocean circulation #AMOC will weaken ~50% by 2100, even for medium emissions and without Greenland melting. Seriously bad news.

For some, today has been exceptionally warm for the time of year🌡️
For context, temperatures above 26°C are very uncommon in early April. Indeed, today has been the second warmest day on record during the first half of any April 📈⚠️
