@bookbeduion There's definitely gonna be elements of both at play. I do think a smaller, more modern selection, combined with more self-guided reading where students are allowed to go "this isn't for me, so I'm picking something else" might help in maintaining reading into adulthood

A cast album contains enough of the music and dialogue to convey the story, and incorporates a lot of the decisions made by the performers and directors that aren't in the script

It's got nothing to do with whether people like reading or not. The script is a much smaller fraction of a play than the cast album of a musical is.

@eurydaisies @hearts4alb Using Oh Mary as an example, a single ticket to see it next Saturday is £89 + fees. For the same money, you could buy CDs of half a dozen cast albums. Cost is a hugely prohibiting factor for accessing live theatre for a lot of people

@rappadapa Even the season 1 uniforms had shoulder and chest padding. But the redesign and change of material for the season 3+ uniforms make a world of difference in them looking like a uniform and not pyjamas
