Really interesting note from John Gordon of Avochie to Lord Lewis Gordon asking to have colours made in Aberdeen for the troops. He suggests a blue ground with a boar’s head in yellow to be made of waxed cloth ‘for defending the rain’. Aberdeen citizens were to pay for it, natch.

Incredible bequeathal from Christopher Duffy to the @N_T_S Culloden archive. Here's hoping that they make it available for students and researchers to consult upon appointment when visiting the property. (pics via NTS Culloden’s FB/Insta posts)
From the pages of @HistoryScotland's #SpotlightJacobites column is a short study on the soldiers from the British army who deserted their ranks and ended up fighting amongst their #Jacobite foes.

Just in time for the holiday break, my new #SpotlightJacobites essay is out in the latest issue of @HistoryScotland. This month I wrote a bit about a loyalist informer and the Lord Lyon’s attempts to secure him shelter from the disaffected populace near Inverness. @BrodieCastle
Big congrats to @ArranPJohnston on the launch of his new book on Bonnie Prince Charlie via @penswordbooks. Looking forward to seeing how his work updates the old standards of McLynn and Daiches. #Jacobites#JacobiteStudies#The45
