Well, here we go with another week in dystopia. Trump is no longer satisfied with asset stripping America for his oligarch masters, he’s decided to help them dismantle the world rules based order.

It seems pretty clear now that the US has decided to retire NATO’s article 5 and say they will only participate to defend when it’s in their interest to do so. They now see Asia Pacific as their new focus and it’s for Europe to take care of themselves. It’s been coming for decades but Europe has chosen to bury their heads in the sand.

We are being forced to face the reality that we are likely to see the US seeking to create an Asian Pacific Alliance to protect its interests in the region. This is a reality Europe MUST face. I suspect the next move by Trump will be to begin withdrawing forces from Germany and possibly the UK. This will be part of a fear strategy to gain economic leverage.
These are indeed challenging times.

There has never been a better time for the UK to reintegrate with Europe. I feel given the real threat the region is now facing from Russia, neither Europe or the UK would have the upper hand in negotiations. It would probably be the most level playing field since the EU came into being.

We have reached a geopolitical inflection point and what we do right now, will dictate our prosperity or decline for a generation. Never has leadership been more important since World War 2. If we get this wrong, our children and grandchildren will face the consequences of our failure.

We need to realign our trading relationships and Europe needs to build much closer ties with Canada.🇨🇦. Trade relationships are like walking a tightrope. There is little margin for error. The problem now with trading with the US is, it will be like dealing with an extortion gang. Trump will keep coming to collect and there is no safe refuge for abused nations.

Trump knows that the relationships we have are baked in. Over the years we have created bilateral trading relationships and an integrated defense strategy. He believes that realigning these hard coded structures will be too painful for us to even contemplate rebuilding. The problem is. If you don’t stand up to a bully, they will bully you again and again. The argument that Trump won’t be there forever is delusional, MAGA has a whole line of foreign policy and economic terrorists waiting to take up the baton.

There needs to be full throated engagement between the UK and the EU that involves the public. I believe that desperate times require desperate measures and a new referendum is required in the UK to test where the public now stands because BREXIT is costing us 4% of GDP annually.

I am delighted that I am now engaging more friends beyond the US and that European journalist are joining the Truth Matters family. You are very welcome and I absolutely value your input. I believe that only by working together can we build a better tomorrow.

Let’s be brutally honest, the US HAS footed a disproportionate amount of the cost of Europe’s security. Germany and France have really taken advantage. There has to be a recognition of this. The way Trump operates, is he takes a grain of truth and weaponises it. Europe is now painted to his base as freeloaders and we helped him do that.

It’s time to step up NOW and formulate a new plan that does not revolve around an extortion gang.
