Attempts to increase battery capacity through thinner substrates with new materials and techniques have failed. It seems that each company will release their products by sacrificing certain aspects.
• Samsung will release in limited quantities and increase the battery size by sacrificing some thickness.
• Apple will retreat from its initial goals for both thickness and battery size.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim

Applies a new battery with different cells and materials from the previous ones.

iPhone 17 Slim

New substrate is not usable.

The battery also uses the existing manufacturing method.

The industry had expected that the adoption of a new substrate would result in a slimmer design and a larger battery, but with the failure to adopt the new material substrate, it is now anticipated that the slim model will not achieve a thickness around 6mm, and the battery capacity will not be significantly increased.

According to Chinese sources, the plan to produce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 (8 Elite 2) at Samsung Foundry has been canceled, and it will only be made on TSMC’s N3P.

News has come out about the Dimensity 9500 and Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. Both chips are expected to see a 20% increase in single and multi performance thanks to SME. (For the Snapdragon 8E2, the single-core score is 4000 on the GB6.)

By the way, the 8G5 uses a mix of Samsung Foundry SF2 and TSMC N3P.
