My take for @TheFP today. Two things can be true at the same time: 1) there's nothing more American than punching a Nazi in the face at Normandy (the Ayatollah and IRGC qualified under this rubric), and 2) executive overreach on war powers is the rot at the heart of our constitutional order.
Crises will always tempt governments to choose necessity over law, but the American people need to understand the stakes. History is filled with elegies to republics that chose poorly.
