In Tamil, we call it Arasa Maram, the King of Trees. The sacred fig (Ficus religiosa) is a species of fig native to the Indian subcontinent.
It is also known as the bodhi tree, bo tree, peepul tree, peepal tree, pipala tree, and ashvattha tree.
The sacred fig has religious significance in four major religions that originated on the Indian subcontinent: Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, and Jainism.

The leaves are cordate in shape with a distinctive extended drip tip. They are 10β17 centimetres (3.9β6.7 in) long and 8β12 centimetres (3.1β4.7 in) broad, with a 6β10 centimetres (2.4β3.9 in) petiole. The fruits are small figs, 1β1.5 centimetres (0.39β0.59 in) in diameter, green ripening to purple.
