@jonassiegel Jonas, from a fan’s perspective… what is the point of giving up assets just to make the playoffs. They’re not good enough to win anything meaningful and it was this mindset that led us to having no draft picks in the first place.
@OverDrive1050 Boston was the model for leadership under Bergeron and Chara and now, not the same team. Not sure why Matthews is getting a pass talking about others being passengers and how they weren’t hungry enough. Team takes its cues from its leaders and I’m not seeing any leadership.
@jonassiegel We’ve forever been lamenting the fact that the Leafs can’t afford top free agent talent (with a particular emphasis on D) so if anything, the Top 4 should get LOWER percentages of the cap if they truly want to build a contending team.
@Senators2005AAA Then why hasn’t it translated into points? You can’t tell people you got “goalied” 8 years in a row. I can only suspect that not all “scoring chances” are the same.
#Shanahan needs to go
1. Failed to anticipate salary waterfall impact of signing Tavares
2. Failed to change core 4 roster last summer before MM NMC kicked in. likely lose him for nothing now.
3. Did not expect to lose Dubas. Forced into offseason/draft with BT
#LeafsForever
@BizNasty2point0 perfectly reasonable take and shows other players who might consider signing here that NMC will be respected but might be in the best interest of both parties to find a mutually agreeable exit strategy. Hard to envision Marner putting his heart and soul into a final season.
Let’s be honest. Even if the Leafs had won this game, there are WAY too many roster flaws for this team to win a cup and change needs to happen. 80% on core four can’t be a winning model. #LeafsForever
@FarmerRob17_@JDrew03 Not one other team in the league thought a winning roster could be built by giving 4 guys 80% of the cap but somehow, this Management group keeps doubling down on that model
@jonassiegel Hope for what Jonas? With all teams’ goals to win the cup, this core group has managed 1 playoff round win and is nowhere near competing for a cup. We need to set way higher expectations for this management team to build a winning roster and mindset.
@rynbomb@OverDrive1050 100% agree
Treliving will take the shrapnel too.
The league is filled with many smart management teams and not one other team decided that giving 4 guys 80% of the cap is the way to build a roster.
@jonassiegel Two different issues
1. No production on the PP is too predictable. Coaching or no will to change?
2. Lack of 5v5 scoring - You can’t pay 4 guys 80% of the cap and also fill the rest with quality D and depth Fwd needed to efficiently transition out of the D-Zone / N-zone
@Cryptadian Agree that having your most talented players in the lineup helps but the lack of scoring is just a symptom of the underlying problem… top heavy roster = lack of forward depth, goaltending and defence which can neither defend or transition out of their zone with any efficiency.
This is exactly what we should expect. A demonstration of a poorly built roster which is so top heavy with nothing left to invest in quality goaltending and defence. #Shanascam#LeafsForever
