#W23POPMUS In my opinion, I believe Canadian content should still have an enforceable quota as some Canadian artists can't keep up with the production of bigger US artists and thus require some assistance to keep up with others and spread the world of their content.
#W23POPMUS # Wald’s assessment is true as at least my friends would rather listen to their favourite songs recorded, as cover bands are fine but can’t recreate the original's magic. Recording tech impacted live bands who use sampling trying to recreate original bands' sounds.
#W23POPMUS # listening technology influenced my identity by showing who has this access to these expensive technologies and who doesn't. It shows that we are still separated by a sort of class status. It also made music more accessible and linked us more closely hen before.
@bradleyhodder_ Good answer, Bradley! Just because it is a cover does not mean it doesn't have value. It still is enjoyable to some people, and as long as the proper credit is given to the real creators of the cover, then it is fine to enjoy the cover rendition.
@dionbennett99 I agree, Dion. It is partly due to the emotion from the lyrics but is skillfully controlled and intentional and adds to the musical feeling the song is trying to portray.
#W23POPMUS # I believe that critics criticized the white middle-class renditions of popular black songs as they took credit from these artists. The white teen listeners of the time probably didn't realize they were even covers and praised those who did not deserve the praise.
@brookeking_15 I agree! as soon as a new piece of technology comes out and someone popular supports it, then it becomes the next new thing. The more advanced music technology out there, the fewer people in the lower classes can access it due to the increased price to rake in the profits.
#W23POPMUS I believe Ray Charles used a breaking voice to put emphasis on certain parts of his songs. This is often used to create powerful sounds so it signifies to me Ray Charles is attempting to tell the listeners what parts should be paid attention to more than others.
@chboland1 Haha, good example. If you don't have AirPods nowadays, you get weird looks at the mall. Levels of importance nowadays have to do with what you own, it seems.
@burrysara1 I agree! having the newest things in terms of the popular music industry makes some people believe it has the effect of looking cool more so than others who do not have these things.
#W23POPMUS A false need in the popular music industry is the need to re-buy new deluxe albums. You are paying mostly for the old songs you have. Popular music appeals to a variety of people, those who follow the latest trends and who like to experience a lot of the same things.
