No, Israeli officials didn't dupe Trump into an anti-Iran posture that Trump has championed consistently since long before ever running for office.

And no, Israel didn't dupe America into the Iraq War in 2003. Israel actually told America in real time not to go to Iraq because it was taking its eye off the real threat in Iran. That was Prime Minister Sharon's argument.

(Yes, Netanyahu once gave testimony in Congress in favor of the Iraq war. He was a private citizen at the time. If that was enough to drag America to war, you've got bigger problems than Israel.)

But it gets so, so much worse.

This poor sod literally claims he lost his wife to "a war manufactured by Israel." But he lost his wife in Syria fighting ISIS -- a fight he actually supports in this very letter.

So which is it?

It's tragic reading this kind of insane babble from a broken man.

More to the point, this isn't a man capable of understanding or articulating policy. He certainly wasn't in the room when any of these decisions were made. If he was, he wouldn't be telling old lies about old wars.

It's good that he's quitting. When all you can see is the demonic specter of the "Jew" blocking out everything else in sight, you no longer have much to offer your country.

No, America isn't this stupid. No, Israel isn't this nefarious or powerful. And no, your wife didn't die for Israel, but for America.

What a sad, broken, stupid, incompetent man you had running your counterterrorism, America.

America went to war in Iran because Iran made itself a Chinese weapon. I explain in detail in my piece in @TheFP.

America didn’t need to do this -- to invest so much political capital and military firepower -- just to shore up a second-run Israeli operation, nor is it reasonable to believe, as Secretary Rubio claimed, that it's all because of potential Iranian counter-strikes against US forces.

Months of American buildup, America setting the timing and pulling the trigger on the operation, and the growing and increasingly dangerous strategic ties between Iran and China for America's ability to face down its chief adversary in the Pacific -- these are all evidence that this was an American decision, and that Israel is playing second fiddle this time around.

There are now two wars underway in Iran, not one: The longstanding Israel-Iran war playing out on the regional chessboard, and the much larger US-China confrontation on the global chessboard.

They overlap significantly in terms of the two nations' banks of targets in Iran -- but that overlap may not hold to the end.

Two wars, not one. If you can only see one of them, you'll misunderstand what's happening now and what happens next.

It's an American attempt to prevent China from disastrously outflanking it in the Middle East.

This understanding has consequences. For example, America may well stop the war before the Israelis have achieved their narrower, more localized goals -- when the US determines that Iran is no longer capable or willing to serve Chinese interests as it has up to now.

It also explains what Trump means by "regime change." It's not a call for democracy, only for geopolitical neutrality. Like Venezuela.

There is a recurring dynamic in history:
When the window to act against dangerous regimes is open, urgency feels low.

AIPAC commends the U.S. House of Representatives for including critical pro-Israel provisions in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2025. The importance of these provisions is underscored by Israel’s ongoing efforts to defeat Hamas in Gaza and defend itself from Iranian proxies in the region.

Some key pro-Israel provisions:

✅ $500 million for U.S.-Israel missile defense cooperation. This includes funds for Israeli procurement of Iron Dome, David’s Sling and Arrow, and for bilateral research, development, testing and evaluation.
✅ $35 million for U.S.-Israel cooperation on emerging defense technologies, including directed energy, AI, cybersecurity and quantum.
✅ $50 million for U.S.-Israel Anti-Tunneling Cooperation.
✅ $70 million for U.S.-Israel Counter-Drone Cooperation.
✅ Extends the authority of the existing War Reserve Stockpile Authority for Israel until 2029.
✅ Directs the Department of Defense (DOD) and State to work with NATO and major non-NATO allies to ensure unjustified warrants issued by the ICC against members of the armed forces of the U.S. or of its other allies are not enforced.
✅ Directs the DOD and its agencies to not participate in international defense exhibitions if they or the jurisdictions in which they are held block or threaten the participation of Israeli companies.
✅ Requires a briefing on the status of deliveries to Israel of any military aircraft or air-launched munitions approved for transfer.
✅ Requires a study on steps Israel, the U.S., and Egypt can take to enhance international security measures to ensure Hamas and other actors cannot use tunnels or methods via the Mediterranean Sea to smuggle weapons and illicit goods.
✅ Requires the Secretary of Defense to submit to Congress a report outlining the status of integrated air and missile defense in the CENTCOM AOR, particularly Israel.
✅ Directs the Secretary of Defense to work with our counterparts in Israel to establish a defense innovation field office within Israeli territory.
✅ Requires the Secretary of Defense to conduct a continual assessment of the impact of arms embargoes, sanctions, restrictions, or limitations imposed by foreign states or international organizations on Israel's defense capabilities.
✅ Convenes the U.S.-Israel Defense Industrial Base Working Group to study the potential for defense industrial base integration between the United States and Israel.

In adopting these important provisions, we appreciate the leadership of @RepMikeRogersAL (R-AL) and Ranking Member @RepAdamSmith (D-WA).
