ON THIS DATE in 1802, the United States Military Academy is established at West Point.

President Thomas Jefferson signed legislation creating the world’s preeminent leadership institution. The Academy was the first engineering school in the United States.

Its graduates include Presidents, decorated Generals who commanded ground and air units responsible for saving the world from the brink of disaster, engineers who built the infrastructure of this country that we use today, and a loud kid from New Jersey who would skip the birth of his child for the Army Navy game.

Thank you to all those who count it as their Alma Mater and have graciously served this country 🇺🇸
