I'm thrilled to share that I'll be starting as an Assistant Professor of Public Policy @ucrspp in Fall 2025! I'm incredibly excited to join the faculty and start working with students there.
@leightjessica I recommend also identifying what parts of the previous presentation you liked, it ensures that the skill captures that part, improving the skill for your purposes!
What actually moves people's trust in elections? Got to talk through what my coauthors and I have found with @MattGrossmann on the Science of Politics podcast. Turns out, information has powerful effects! https://t.co/eKG3hMROPp
Uh judges don't just issue decisions without a lawsuit. From Asst AG Jonathan Kanter : "Our win in court is a victory for U.S. travelers who deserve lower prices and better choices." What a ridiculously misleading tweet. Why not admit maybe that lawsuit was wrong??
Spiking fuel prices from Trump’s war was the nail in the coffin for twice-bankrupted Spirit airline.
FWIW, JetBlue merger failed because a judge, appointed by Ronald Reagan, said the deal was illegal.
Republicans are desperate to shift blame from higher costs hitting families.
The reality is just that the candidates [for CA Gov] that were complaining were not doing as well. I didn't choose the number of candidates. I think it's really important to have diversity on the stage and in CA politics. But their campaigns are not going as well on polling and fundraising.
@christiangrose Most of these candidates have been in the race for a year. If they're still at 2%, maybe that's a reflection of their campaign strategy, not the methodology used to set debate inclusion at a time when Dems are facing a possible general election lockout.
Attacks on @christiangrose by Dem legislators and gov candidates have been bad faith and particularly galling at a time when so many universities and faculty are being attacked by the current administration.
I am heartened by the large number of academics who have supported my academic integrity from across California and the United States. Leading scholars issued this statement below. 1/5
Cities are dynamic organisms that need to change to survive. Being opposed to change is being opposed to survival. LA govt's opposition to change will ruin the city -- especially with the Hollywood downturn. A major shift in governing philosophy is needed.
Democrats in Los Angeles need to get serious with their mayor and their city council. Most of them ultimately are against the city being successful. A city preserved in amber is a fossil where the young, poor and middle class are forced to leave
as a very, very proud american citizen i stand with dario amodei and appreciate his willingness to defend the civil liberties of other american citizens 🇺🇸
Dark place yes, but not surprising. Just got back survey experiment results that show ppl are persuaded by information from TikTok-style video content on elections just as much as from trusted election officials (and young ppl maybe more so). Submitting for publication soon!
we are entering a pretty dark area of politics if one TikToker with 100k followers can trigger an entire news cycle with a totally unverified claim in a US Senate race
I would argue the execution by goon squad of someone for the crime of filming ICE is the most indefensible part, but the grotesque lies and smears by those in power are the scariest. We desperately need meaningful pushback by Democrats AND Republicans AND economic leaders.
The smart progressive response to the Minnesota welfare fraud is to:
1) demand the fraudsters be punished.
2) demand political accountability.
3) note that direct government provision of social services can be more effective and invite less fraud.
The bad response is to minimize what happened.
I see people replying to this saying it's unfair to expect parents to read to their kids. Sorry, but I will not buy that people have less actual time now than in 2012 until you show me that the parents not reading to their kids have 0 screen time on their phones.
Only 41%, of children between the age of zero to four are being read to every day, “a decline of nine percentage points from 2019 and 15 percentage points in 2012.”
We are definitely not messaging the importance of early reading to families.
Watching Anastasia with my five-year-old, and she's very frustrated by the manufactured romantic conflict. "Why doesn't he tell her he didn't take the money??" "Stop it, Anastasia, you love him so marry him! Tell him you love him!"
