@RSiddwell52228 @186a7b01a300497 It's pretty much the myth of the industry. That's why I talk so much about 'Markets, not Marketplaces' in my book, Set Up as a Micro Publisher.
@NoahRayWrites Australian Reads survey said the top reason for choosing a book was having enjoyed a book of theirs before, second was recommended by friend or family, third was the descriptive blurb.
@JDaltonAuthor Yes and no. We are fed up, but it was always hard to get reviews. With a book, you feel like you have to consider what it meant to you, frame it in a way that makes sense. Some readers may not feel confident so revert to star giving, if that. I've used BookSprout for reviews.

@CHRISDBRAND Ah, but have you tried the 'fake vulnerable story about how you started writing and never expected to receive such plaudits' post over on Instagram? You havent hit rock bottom yet! π
Think about your author brand first, not your book. Why?
Because next year you will have another book idea. You need a main place that creates intrigue for all your books, and something that connects you to an intended audience.
An author website, author brand and style.
When writing your book, the last thing on your mind is how to capture attention with a hook.
Jean Stine was recommending book hooks (one-liners) back in 1997. It's even more important to learn how to write one now.
Think new, different, dramatic.
I must apologise for the US spelling in this post.
You just can't trust automatic content tools, however, you can entrust us with your book. Editing done the traditional way!
Jen's Mottos: Sell your reason why. π
If you start promoting with the reason why you have written the book (helping the world in some way) you will get more interest than just mentioning your book title.
