The House member who wants to let Trump appoint D.C.'s attorney general (currently elected by residents) mistakenly says it was the city's AG who didn't prosecute two-thirds of arrests in D.C. That was actually the U.S. Attorney for D.C. – who *is* appointed by the president.
If Trump and his allies in Congress truly cared about the well-being of the District, they wouldn't have forced DC to cut $1 billion of local tax dollars from the budget mid-year, jeopardizing programs that make the city better.

No matter how broad a list of exclusions, key groups will inevitably be excluded. The bill contains no exclusion for victims of interpersonal violence, or individuals seeking week, or even someone who is out of work for two weeks because of covid. 11/11
House Republicans are proposing a new kind of radical & punishing work requirement. Millions of low-income people will have their health care terminated by this bill. New paper with @machledtDC a 🧵about how it will happen. https://t.co/PJGbtVk0Bp. 1/11
The proposed bill contains lot of exclusions, but in practice these processes are often poorly publicized and deliberately complicated. Exemptions are fig leaves that try to cover the fact that the bill will terminate coverage for millions of people it claims to exempt. 10/11
Without the ACA, my mom would have died in a matter of months. She lived 7 more years, got to meet and love my wife, and got to make more memories with her family.
I have a story about how the Mayor of the District of Columbia, the Nation’s Capitol, is banking, quite literally, on depriving families of their rights under the U.S. Constitution. This story has some wonky bits, but also hubris and bold disregard for well-established law!
