Today we celebrate World Press Freedom Day, sponsored by UNESCO. Unfortunately, this right is often violated, sometimes flagrantly, sometimes in hidden ways. Let us remember the many journalists and reporters who are victims of war and violence.
An apple tree doesn't need a sign to tell you what it is.
You can tell by the fruit.
We know who Donald Trump is... he has shown us, over and over, by the vulgarities and bullying and slander.
Yes, we know who Trump is. But this election is about who WE ARE. And who we want to be as a nation.
Let us choose love instead of hatred, faith instead of fear, compassion instead of narcissism, and kindness instead of bigotry.
I pray Donald Trump comes to know Jesus and is transformed by Christ's love. I also pray tonight that we do not allow him to be President... ever again.
Lord, hear my prayer.
This week is poised to be the deadliest week of the year, for executions in the US. There are 2 executions set for tomorrow and 2 on Thursday. Join us at @RedLetterXians and @DeathPenaltyAct as we work to stop these executions, and all executions.
Political violence is evil.
Political violence perpetuates violence and retaliation.
Political violence is never the way to peace.
Political violence should be lamented and condemned in all its forms.
May it always break our hearts.
Jesus drew crowds because of the integrity of his message and the power of his love.
Jesus didn’t need to put up posters about his beliefs.
Jesus didn’t have to make the government enforce his beliefs.
Jesus lived it and showed others how too.
That’s what truth looks like.
Matthew 25:31-46 tells us that when Jesus returns, he doesn’t judge the righteous and the unrighteous based on how many people they converted or how they enforced their beliefs.
They are judged based on their compassion towards the hungry, thirsty, sick, and imprisoned.
I just can’t imagine a scenario where we get to heaven and Jesus says…
“You loved too much.”
“You showed mercy too often.”
“You welcomed too many people into the Church.”
“You spent too much time pursuing justice on behalf of the poor, marginalized and oppressed.”
