March is special. It's when I stood for the 1st time, took my 1st steps & went home. This is me walking after months in the #icu from the #flu. I feel vulnerable sharing an intimate pic but ppl need see the hardship. I have #nolimits. #icurehab#medtwitter#rehablegend#amputee
I’m grateful & happy of what I’ve accomplished since getting severely ill in 2009. I only thought of physical healing, but emotional is the hardest for me. I made a lot of progress & today is about celebrating that. Off to celebrate me on this anniversary☀️🕶🌵🏜
@evergreendata As a speaker with a physical disability I always include accessibility in my requirements. Thank you for including it in yours going forward. #disability#accessibility
1/🧵#Covid19 is a disease of blood vessels that can affect your lungs, heart, brain, or any organ. Blood clotting sucks life from vital organs. This pt asked to have her story shared so that others may learn & seek #Vaccination. COVID caused blockage of blood to her arms & legs.
1/🧵 I’d like to think as a medical community that we have changed & no longer discharge people w/out appropriate follow-up, but just last week I met a #COVID19 survivor who was discharged from the ICU simply to follow up w his primary care physician.

A patient who was intubated and sedated told me today that he heard a lot of conversations during that time. And wishes people still greeted him when entering his #ICU room. Even though he could not show a response, he wanted to be included.

I have been doing EMDR for a few years to address my traumas. I love that my mom now randomly sends articles about it. A support network is very important during & after a critical illness / trauma.

Sometimes you are really rewarded for downloading the supplemental data! 🐶🦠

Because of #COVID19 I updated my final wishes / legal docs. It was nice to have everything planned in case something happens, as I know all too well. Thankfully my family “gets it.” These decisions & conversations are so important to have beforehand.

Kilo & I went for a ride through Saguaro National Park. I love trying new things that show even with a disability I have no limits. I also get why they recommend this for PTSD.🌵🐴

1/ Ten Myths about Sedation & Delirium in the ICU: CCM
We wrote this in 2013, but these seem super relevant & important now in the #COVID19#Pandemic. Argue and Comment, but I think ALL OF THESE ARE FALSE, i.e., Myths...see next tweet

@missingdigits17@TantamKate Agree with everything you said. My family & nurses were good at lip reading. Doctors were the worst which was frustrating. Sadly one doctor told me to stop faking that I couldn’t speak. He later apologized, but still...

I ❤️ gardening & during COVID I decided to buy indoor plants. There were wins & failures. But...this morning my monstera deliciosa showed it’s 1st leaf fenestration! Never knew I’d get so excited over a plant 🪴 😂

I put my arm around a lovely patient to support them into standing for the first time & they said it was the closest they’d come to a hug since the start of Covid 🥺
So we sat in the chair, drank tea, held hands & talked about dogs because that is #physiotherapy at its finest 🐾
This week I met a #Rehablegend who was having trouble communicating
They had just been extubated were anxious & frustrated.
It took me a bit to understand but we got there in the end…. Then they said “Thank you”
Never underestimate the impact of helping someone feel heard
I went to a chiropractor for the 1st time & got a deep tissue massage too. Wish I had gone a long time ago bc I’m pretty sure being in an ICU bed for months did a number on my back. Can we make #massage part of patients’ care plans?💆🏼♀️
