WEEK 167 IS UPON US! World-renowned educator and author @rickwormeli2 will be stopping by to chat with me on the topic, A WHITE EDUCATOR & A BLACK EDUCATOR TALK RACE IN THE CLASSROOM. Join us LIVE this Sat morn here LIVE or YouTube LIVE @ Virtual AP Leadership Academy @ 10:55 ET.
In case it would be helpful, @PrincipalKafele and I are going to do a live (and also recorded) conversation this Saturday, July 8th, for his normal leadership program that day. This one with the two of us, however, is called, "A White Educator and a Black Educator Talk Race in the Classroom." It starts at about 10:55 am and runs for about 90 minutes. Principal Kafele's connection points are here: YouTube @ Virtual AP Leadership Academy, Facebook @ Virtual AP Leadership Academy, Facebook @ Principal Kafele, Linked In @ Principal Kafele, and of course, the Twitter handle above. I don't have any idea of the questions he'll ask, nor does he know the questions I'll ask him. Yeah, we're leaning the whole time toward the leadership side of things, but wow, there's going to be a lot of content for classroom practitioners, too. I hope you can join us this Saturday.
As someone who has taught reading intervention, I’m pretty quiet on the reading wars except to say that when you use the term “war” you will end up with casualties. You’ll dehumanize. You’ll create enemies in a way that prevents dialogue.
Phonics matter. Blending matters. Stories matter. Prior knowledge matters. Helping kids fall in loving with reading matters.
I want to see kids read. I’m not interested in warfare.
@markbarnes19 Yes, it’s a 4 year degree in Forensic Science, different from the Criminal Justice program. Here’s a link to the department. https://t.co/8wMLZJuCoF My daughter also looked at IUPUI and Arizona State but felt Loyola had the better program.
