@KMutisi@MarauderMag@rustyrockets in order for this wealthy white man to face any legitimate consequences there would have to be sufficient evidence- convictions are genuinely difficult to get when the accusations are accurate. the idea that false accusations ruin rich peoples’ lives is entirely unfounded.
@BullheadRanch@Steven_Monty@shaunasadecki “Beauty” is not a form of power so much as a patriarchal weapon that women have learned to yield in their own way. A man already has more power in society than a woman to start off, wealth and fame increase that level of power. Age also impacts a power dynamic.
@BullheadRanch@Steven_Monty@shaunasadecki We live in a patriarchal society Tom, that’s not how power dynamics operate. Women can capitalize on their beauty only bc patriarchy imposes standards of beauty on us and sexualizes us from a young age. Women’s value in a patriarchal society is contingent upon how we appear.
@616JOHNNYST0RM @Steven_Monty@shaunasadecki I clearly didn’t call her a child, I said she’s younger than him. Dating women younger than you is a patriarchal standard for men. Especially wealthy/powerful men. Its obviously a pattern, so obviously there’s larger implications here in terms of us as a society
@BullheadRanch@Steven_Monty@shaunasadecki Imo I didn’t infantilize her at all. All I said was its a patriarchal standard for men to date younger women, especially men with wealth or other forms of power. Its encouraged, maybe even expected. It being a pattern means there are larger implications.
@shaunasadecki i don’t think this individual power dynamic is the issue so much as patriarchal standards which encourage men to seek younger women regardless of their own age, shaming women for natural parts of aging, privileging young women in media representations, etc. this is a pattern.
@kaytareech @hankgreen Congrats! You made a false equivalency! Men statistically abuse, harrass, commit acts of violencr against women at high rates. Show me literally any stats that say trans women do these things to cis women at even moderate rates, and I’ll agree. (spoiler: they don’t exist lol)
@jordantarantin@AnnaToccara@lizzo One way I’ve noticed fatphobia on a societal level is that fat people in films tend to be the comedic relief character, often with other characters making jokes about their weight (or self-depracation). Those types of representations can really have an impact.
@jordantarantin@AnnaToccara@lizzo Its an irrational aversion to fat/fat people (a phobia can be an extreme fear OR aversion, like homophobia is an aversion to gay people). It exists on an individual level w shame and degradation, but also on a societal level w praise over thin bodies/devaluation of fat bodies.
