@AlanLevinovitz I know women who have had their MS symptoms psychologised. One of them I know took a decade for her to be reffered and diagnosed. A decade without treatment because drs believed the only thing she could be suffering was a bad attitude. It’s still happening today.
@hannahspierMD I’ve been on medication for a year now and have been able to do things I was unable to do for decades. Amazing how real medical care works better than shrugging your shoulders and telling patients they just like being sick.
@hannahspierMD I couldn’t ’move forward’ because I had undiagnosed pots for 20 years. I begged for 7 years for standing heart rate test, had to go to a charity to get my gp to refer me to cardiology because my drs psychologised every physical symptom I had.
@JeremyVineOn5 Poverty is a leading cause of poor health. Throwing disabled people into deeper poverty will not improve their health or make them suddenly able to work.
@GTeafor2@JeremyVineOn5@theJeremyVine I get asked ‘what happened to you?’ a lot, yelling ‘none of your business’ is pretty effective in getting them to go away.
@1goodtern My cat was very happy that me getting sick meant he got to hang out on my bed with me all day. Never once complained I was boring to spend time with now, stands in stark contrast to most people who claimed to love me.
@PacoOnPause You’re not doing nothing, resting and healing is doing something important. It’s just mind numbingly boring and a brutal lesson in patience.
@1goodtern People stop seeing you and start seeing their own mortality. Which is why the denial kicks in, if it could happen to you, it could happen to them and that’s scary. So they tell you what’s happening to you isn’t real.
@CovidSolidarit1 They become someone you need to protect yourself from. Have no respect for boundaries around health because they don’t believe it. Can tell them straight ‘I can’t physically do that and it will harm me to try’ and they’ll still insist you try. God forbid your health gets worse
@1goodtern Never consider that having an undiagnosed and untreated physical illness is traumatic, stressful and overstimulating. Especially as there is no ‘sick enough’ for this type of person to believe you, even dying of the illness doesn’t vindicate you.
@awgaffney I tested and diagnosed myself with pots, took 7 years from then to get official diagnosis. I was losing consciousness multiple times a day and lost half my body weight, my GP wouldn’t even google POTS. Had to go to a charity to get referred for testing.
@1goodtern Meds work with your immune system, if your immune system is compromised they’re less effective. Need to be on meds longer and gives whatever you’re fighting off more time to adapt. Immune compromised are protecting others from whatever can be cooked up in our bodies by masking.
@Telegraph@lauradonnlee Mental health services are ridiculous. Where I live they tell suicidal people to take their minds off of it with a cup of tea. And say things like ‘well you’ve said you’re suicidal before and you’re still here’
@1goodtern Once you decide one group of people are acceptable collateral losses for your comfort, it gets easier and easier to apply the same thinking to an ever increasing number of people.
@1goodtern Took me 20 years to get diagnosed cause of this shit. I had a serious undiagnosed medical illness the entire time I was accused of hypochondria
