HXDnurses @hxdconf who are design strategists and design researchers reimagining the healthcare system @marionleary @jenwallacern @RNRebeccaLove @KnowNurses
@JLittlejohn_RN@bookieboo @RNRebeccaLove Absolutely this role could include mentoring. Currently, the only option available for retired nurses at my small community hospital is to volunteer to stuff envelopes or be a cuddler in the nursery. Both opportunities went away with covid #ANursesVoice
@JLittlejohn_RN@bookieboo @RNRebeccaLove 2)Role was clearly defined. Resource nurse supported regular staff & did not take a patient assignment. Benefits: hospital only pays for hours as determined by acuity/staffing, expertise in kept on the unit, flexibility, & no pricey orientation required #ANursesVoice

@JLittlejohn_RN@bookieboo @RNRebeccaLove 1) With a recent milestone bday🍿this topic has been on my mind. In response to short staffing, a local community hospital maternity unit created a "resource nurse" role where recently retired RNs were hired per diem to assist the regular staff #ANursesVoice

@nikosciascia@bookieboo @RNRebeccaLove @NurseMigration Historically #nursingeducation has done its work behind closed doors - siloed away from the public. The impending retirement of significant % of faculty will directly impact enrollment which has implications for the number of future RNs available to care for us #ANursesVoice
I know- let’s teach the general public what we do— in plain language— and then let’s teach them that they CAN and must DEMAND- at the very least— the standard of care! Things might just get real! #ANursesVoice@karendimarco11
@marionleary This would be considered blasphemy by many in #nursingeducation - but SPOT ON. I ask myself daily if the hours spent reacting to next gen #NCLEX prep will really create grads who are better prepared for practice? #ANursesVoice
@NursePatMacRN Absolutely. #nursingeducation is tethered to rigid regulations and oversight that hinder more than help. Now in order to hold a FT faculty role an MSN/DNP/PhD in Nursing is required. By staying in our silo our students miss valuable expertise! #ANursesVoice
@Montalvo501 I participated in @NrsgMutualAid Twitter chat early in the pandemic & really enjoyed the conversation and connections. Many #nursingeducation colleagues have outdated negative views of social media. We can surely harness its power for good not evil! #ANursesVoice
@MrsBosanquet @jenwallacern@ProfWest2016@IntelyEDU @DrNurseDan Agree, we made similar observations w @KnowNurses@NrsgMutualAid, leverage social media platforms to connect w/#nurses and share resources. A recent summary write by the group is posted on medium by @marionleary -- need link but here is website https://t.co/X6JITi6M2n
@ProfWest2016@almostbrenda Yes! Challenges: 1)Much low pay compared to bedside
2)Stranglehold of state BON regs that require clinical instructors to have MSN
3)Clinical expertise doesn't= effective teaching. Not all seasoned nurses have an interested in returning to school
@ProfWest2016 @NurseEdChat Absolutely nurse educators need more faculty development, ed tech support, and $$$ to innovate in the classroom - but first, we need a change of mindset. So many of us are stuck in a 1950's model of teaching and learning #ANursesVoice
@ProfWest2016@IntelyEDU "The future of our profession relies on the systematic evolution of nsg ed. The challenge in this world with COVID-19 is how to educate and develop nurses to acquire skills in a time of distance learning and social isolation" @DrNurseDan #ANursesVoice https://t.co/aJOwa2YSAb
@realRhondaManns 1) Yes, and to meet this #nursingeducation needs to design curricula that are accessible and inclusive of ALL learners - in the context of challenges like covid-19 which are not going away anytime soon #ANursesVoice
