Roblox being around for 20 years now must be baffling to some people, but it's true. I've been on the platform for 17 (approaching 18) years now and saw how it evolved from a humble platform for building fun lego-esque games, into the corporate beast it is today.
There's been lots of highs and lows in my time here, but I have no regrets. It's exactly the kind of thing I wanted to be doing as a kid. I had a hyperfixation on LEGO and making video games, and Roblox perfectly fulfilled that niche for me.
I used to take a lot of pride in being a Roblox developer. We were a tight-knit bunch of quiet unknown innovators in our late teens and early 20s, doing it for the love of the game, despite the limitations we had to work under. It's harder to be prideful of it nowadays, given the wider industry's dismissal of Roblox as a microtransaction sweatshop for children.
Despite all its flaws and shortcomings, I still love Roblox for what it tries to be, rather than what it has ended up being in practice. I wouldn't be voluntarily running my client tracker and all of my tools if I didn't believe in what they were building.
It's been a wild ride, and I never even thought I'd still be here at this point. I hope to stick around for as long as I can.
@Shneezuz Black and White made me fall in love with so many new Pokemon that I don’t think I would have picked if my favorites were available and I think that’s the best part about this
