UPDATE: The Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary, Dr Diana Atwine, has officially launched a nationwide mandatory newborn screening programme for sickle cell disease in Uganda. The launch took place at the ministry’s headquarters under the theme: “Every child in Uganda must have a known sickle cell status.” The programme is being implemented in collaboration with Baylor Foundation Uganda, led by Executive Director Dr Dithan Kiragga, to scale up sickle cell disease management across the country.
