๐จUpdated NICE Guidance for managing iron deficiency anaemia due to heavy #periods.
This applies to ALL age groups that are still having periods.
If you are feeling dizzy, lightheaded, breathless, exhausted with your periods ๐ฉธthen you must be checked for iron deficiency anaemia. This is done by having a FBC, B12, Ferritin, Transferrin and Iron levels.
We have the updated NICE Guidelines- that say EVEN if the haemoglobin (HB) is normal IF the ferritin is below 30-70ug/L with a low Transferrin Saturation (TSAT) (<20%) this indicates iron depletion/deficiency and MUST be treated with prescribed oral iron supplementation.
After 6-8weeks of oral Iron, a repeat blood test is needed. If the compliance, side effects of the oral iron supplements is not tolerated or that the ferritin is not improving - request iron transfusion as well as manage the underlying cause of the heavy periods

๐งฌ โCancer leaves clues โ and biomarkers help us find them early.โ
Cancer biomarkers are special substances that can be found in blood, urine, or tissues.
They act like warning signals, helping doctors to detect, monitor, and follow up certain cancers.
Biomarkers alone canโt confirm cancer, but they give important clues that guide further tests and treatment.
โจ Common Cancer Biomarkers and Their Uses:
๐ธ Thyroid: CEA, Thyroglobulin โ used to check for recurrence after treatment.
๐ธ Lung: CEA, CA-125, Cyfra 21-1 โ help in detection and follow-up.
๐ธ Breast (female): CEA, CA 15-3 โ often used to monitor response to treatment.
๐ธ Liver/Bile Duct: CEA, AFP, CA 19-9 โ AFP is key for liver cancer, CA 19-9 for bile duct cancers.
๐ธ Oesophagus: CEA, CSS โ may help in detecting progression.
๐ธ Stomach & Pancreas: CEA, CA 19-9, CA 72-4 โ commonly checked in pancreatic and gastric cancers.
๐ธ Colorectal: CEA, CA 19-9, M2-PK โ especially useful in follow-up after treatment.
๐ธ Ovaries (female): CA-125, CA 72-4 โ CA-125 is one of the most widely used tumor markers in gynecology.
๐ธ Uterus (female): CEA, CA-125, SCC โ useful in tracking disease activity.
๐ธ Prostate (male): PSA, FPSA & ratio โ PSA is a key marker for early detection and monitoring.
๐ธ Testicle (male): AFP, ฮฒ-hCG โ very important in diagnosis and monitoring.
๐ธ Bone metastasis: CEA โ may indicate cancer spread to bone.
๐ฉบ Important Note:
โขHigh biomarker levels donโt always mean cancer โ they guide doctors to do more tests.
โขThese tests help with early detection and monitoring during treatment.
โขEarly action and regular checkups can save lives.
๐ฟ Awareness leads to early detection. Letโs spread the knowledge and fight cancer together. ๐ชโจ

A comprehensive overview of Rhabdomyolysis.
*The classic triad of symptoms (seen in less than 10% of cases) includes myalgia (muscle pain), weakness, and myoglobinuria (tea-colored urine).
*A key diagnostic indicator is an elevated creatine kinase (CK) level, which can be more than five times the upper limit of normal.
*The condition can lead to severe complications, including acute kidney injury.
