The REDSKINS shirt appearing in the Commanders Team Store was no small thing. They haven’t sold merchandise bearing the REDSKINS name in a long time. This was a BIG deal.

We’ve done a lot of legwork with the family to bring important historical context to the name REDSKINS and its connection to Chief Two Guns White Calf of the Blackfeet Tribe, whose culture and language incorporated colors.

The issue isn’t Josh Harris, it’s the NFL sponsors. If sponsors understand the history, they may see that the term was never intended to be derogatory. Perspective matters, especially when it comes to who holds the brand.

Today, REDSKINS trademarks across multiple classes are owned by descendants of John Two Guns White Calf. That brings an entirely new perspective to a name that lacked so much of its historical context the last time it was used.

Here was our experience. He was one of if not the team leader. Vocal leader, would break down the team each day to start practice. Worked his ass off. Would check in with Vrabel and ask him if there was messaging he wanted him to get to the players. On the field, was a technician, played within offense but could go off script when time was right. Great working Middle of field, should be huge on third downs. Never complained about targets. Not the speed guy he used to be but can’t sleep on him.
