I Know This Much Is True (2020) Miniseries. 10/10, no notes whatsoever. A true work of art. Has to do with an imperfect man trying to understand himself whilst dealing with demons and the "long shadow cast by sin". It's also about how knowledge and forgiveness work together to effect change, and how we lazily let the curse of fate justify and explain who we are.
It's over six hours of Cassavetes-style naturalism bathed in soft piano and synths and shot in sepia with dark lenses on gloomy summer days somewhere in New England. Ruffalo is nothing short of astonishing, the Emmy is well deserved, but the rest of the cast aren't far behind. It knocked me for six and I would urge you to check it out.
Pretty sneaky from @yourheights - the 'unsubscribe' link that they are mandated to include is next to the word 'emails' at the very bottom but in an invisibly dark font....
@clive_mart1n so I assume this refers to people who aspire to be Clapham residents but can't afford to live there and have to settle for Camberwell. To which I would say, you can keep SW4 and its flash mobs thanks very much
Lansdcapers (2021) HBO/Sky - 10/10, an absolute joy from start to finish - what would otherwise have been treated as a police procedural drama elsewhere is elevated to a multilayered trip to Oz reflecting the fantasy land that the protagonists inhabited. Stunning direction that never sits still, with constant lighting and set changes, the effect is both theatrical and widescreen cinematic, and the script brings out the stupidity but also humanity of the couple. Coleman fantastic as ever, Kate O'Flynn one to watch.
In this time of uncertainty and strife there is one constant - and that is the bargainous House of Westphalia ยฃ1 German cooked meat range, which would have been great value a decade ago. Those Swedish meatballs have got me through some tough times. Tough. Times.
