@DeepSpaceErmine @spockisblack Not all specimens of paleontological importance need to be mineralized for us to consider them fossils. Most fossilized bone is in a transition between being fully mineralized and also still bone. In fact, lots of Pleistocene fossils are still completely unmineralized fossils.

@Oj_finn It’s not too dissimilar to the notebook I saw the Bowsun keep on the USS Brig Niagara when I volunteered. Something to work out both measurements and orders on a chalkboard while keeping the rest of the notebook for more permanent entries. Modern example had scratch paper.
