If a student turns something in late, it doesn’t mean the student has less understanding of the content.
An assignments turned in on time doesn’t mean the student knows the content more. Meeting deadlines is important but it can be reordered separately.
Grades must represent the most accurate information and evidence of student proficiency levels. New evidence of learning can render the previous evidence invalid when students grow and improve. #sblchat
Combining evidence on achievement, behavior, & progress in determining students' grades distorts interpretation of all three and never makes sense. A new article from Educational Leadership describes how to remedy this to make reporting more equitable.
