It happened again.
With a different rental car company.
This time: @Avis.
Francisco Melendez traveled from the island of Puerto Rico to Texas, and walked into an Avis rental car location in Cedar Hill, Texas, near Dallas, to pick up the vehicle he had rented. He presented his Puerto Rico drivers license, which is as valid is any license issued in any state in the United States of America.
They asked for his passport.
He didn’t have it.
He told them he didn’t need it to fly to Texas so he didn’t need it to driver in Texas.
The lady, according to Francisco, said “sir I don’t make the rules.”
Here’s the kicker, he walked out of the Avis location furious so he says he stopped by an @Enterprise just to see if he could rent one there. Though he didn’t have a pre-scheduled reservation, he walked up to the counter to try and book a car and he says a worker said the same thing to him: no passport, no rental.
Watch to see the response from Avis higher ups.
Spirit Airlines told a Puerto Rican mother to provide her toddlers passport, but when she couldn’t, she says an airline agent & a supervisor refused to allow her & her family to fly from California to the island of Puerto Rico.
Statement from @SpiritAirlines : “Spirit has a long history of serving Puerto Rico, and we offer about 25 daily flights to three destinations on the island. In this specific case, an agent at LAX who is new to the position misunderstood the identification requirements. We are providing the agent with additional coaching and reiterating proper procedure. We sincerely apologize to our Guest and their family for the inconvenience, and we issued a refund for the tickets and provided them with future travel vouchers.”
Congratulations to the workers at the Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site in Philadelphia who voted overwhelmingly today to join the @steelworkers!
Special shout-out to the organizing committee for their commitment and advocacy! #1u
Today's #HelloNeighbor vote results remain inconclusive as their CEO continues to interfere with workers’ right to a free and fair union election. Workers filed with the @NLRB after their request for voluntary recognition was refused. More: https://t.co/nV5G6phLWe #1u
Bad Bunny’s Grammy performance tonight was an incredible exhibition of unapologetically (inclusive) Puerto Rican pride. Caribbean pride. Latine pride. Bomba. Plena. Black. Queer. PUERTO RICAN PRIDE. This is so much more than just “Latin flavor,” as so many are calling it 🇵🇷✊🏽💯❤️
Many are appalled by CBS's failure to properly caption Bad Bunny last night, but honestly this is a mood. @sanbenito opened the "Gringo Grammys" (as he calls it) by speaking non-english, wearing a non-outfit, dancing with non-celebrities and honoring what for some is non-music.
Why wouldn't @sloane@helloneighborhq an organization that claims to help immigrants, want to negotiate in good faith with a union who has on staff TWO female presidents of pro immigrant labor groups?... Mindblowing
@sloane@helloneighborhq to have a union-busting attorney in your board, a person who dedicates their life to undermining workers rights in the interest of corporate profits, makes your non profit status embarassing at best.

.@sloane@helloneighborhq immigrants & refugees are in need of union protections even more than US born workers because they face exploitation bith as workers & immigrants.

Is that what @helloneighborhq@NeighborNetwrk offers to immigrants and refugees? "We'll help you come to this country so we can exploit you. We don't believe in good pay, respecting workers rights, healthcare, retirement..." #ReinstateTheHelloNeighbor3
CEO of @helloneighborhq, Sloane Davidson, has been bullying workers since they stated they wanted to join the USW, and now she fired 3 of them! If you truly care about refugees & immigrants, reinstate these workers & respect their right to organize to better serve the community!
Join our friends @ecaasu and @APALAnational on Sat., Feb. 4, at 1 PM in Pittsburgh for a solidarity rally around safety for our Asian and Pacific Islander communities. We have to have each other's backs. ✊️ #1u
