I got talking to a brother recently and everything was going fine until he told me he’s a revert.
And I was like, oh okayyy, Alhamdulillah. 🤍
Then somehow the conversation got to marriage and I had to be honest with myself.
I’m genuinely happy you found Islam, I really am. May Allah keep you firm.
But me marrying a revert? I don't see myself doing that really.
I absolutely loved watching the celebrity traitors season that had Phaedra parks! I just remember the former MP saying to her- I love how you carry yourself. Just really love when women know they are that girl and act like it
Are we done with the ‘First Black…’ nonsense now?
Being the first or only Black person in a hostile environment is not an achievement in 2026.
Can we relinquish the insane desire to be completely surrounded by oppression now?
Seriously, are we done?
I keep thinking about whether Black excellence is actually safe in a society that has built so much institutional protection around white mediocrity.
Because Black excellence creates visibility, and visibility without equal protection can become surveillance.
Of course it is all in the "public interest". Because the public is no one that can be held accountable. Also interesting how when one person is under scrutiny, they cease to be considered a member of the said public.
I had a colleague who would occasionally pause in the middle of conversations and say, "Thank God for death."
The first time I heard it, I was shocked. What do you mean? Same death that leaves us hurting?
Then he said, "Even with the knowledge that everything ends with death,
This statement about putting him in spaces he wasn’t qualified for, so that they have a black person to show makes me furious. So in all the world, there was no qualified black PhD to employ at a sociology department in Cambridge. HBCUs? , Harvard, Columbia?
An unrelated note. There are few things I hate in this life as much as seeing people celebrate being "the first black/first Nigerian to...".
How are you comfortable with directly framing a significant communal limitation as a personal success?
The abuse Brampton Manor students receive every A Level results day and the abuse Jason Arday received in the run up to his death are linked by the way. For all the people acting as if his alleged wrongdoings justify the clearly disproportionate response: the crux is Blackness.
I'll always respect Harry for doing what he did for Megan. He knew what they did to his mother and he refused to let it happen again.
Now see what they've done.
The British media is just such a terrible organization.
May he rest in peace.
A lot of folks saying this shouldn’t become political. But the disproportionate hounding of this man was racialised and caused his death.
This is extremely political, I’m afraid.
I'm devastated for the family and friends of Jason Arday.
He faced an unacceptable public hounding and campaign of abuse. I know many Londoners will be angry and upset this evening.
Jason Arday was the victim of a pernicious public shaming that other people in his position simply wouldn’t have faced.
His death was a tragedy, but once again it should be a wake up call for all of us.
