@itsbrianscherer@enrampe > I can stand up a Spotify clone tomorrow
Spotify brings data + app. In this case, the customer brings the data.
If Spotify was an app I could use with my data - then yes, the app part is not particularly valuable. Key distinction.
@willchen500@vdtmehra You might be undercounting security/ops challenges. Vertical FOSS (such as MikeOSS) might need an implementor - data leaks at law firms can be catastrophic.
Without an integrator, you'd need an ambitious tech team - one willing to take risks, fight for staffing etc.
@AjmalKarumannil@tehseenp You're probably too young to remember the kind of poverty that existed in India. Forget India, even Tamil Nadu.
The same TN is today ahead of us now in many indicators - (a) thanks to their hard work and (b) Kerala's left.
TN literacy in 1951 - 20%!!!
@AjmalKarumannil@tehseenp And North India has not failed! Dude.
We're a tiny state with zero industrial or agricultural output - we should be humble. Go watch Sandesham - it's a good movie.
@AjmalKarumannil@tehseenp You refuse to read anything that I wrote, and keep repeating the party line.
India had 18 - EIGHTEEN - percent literacy at independence. There's a lot of catching up to do. And they are catching up.
Kerala today exports manpower. To the gulf, and to other states.
@AjmalKarumannil@tehseenp I grew up in the 80s, when our streets celebrated Josef Stalin and the like; and left student unions (and sometimes CITU) regularly stopped schools from functioning.
You just have to look at it from outside, to see the absurdity.
@AjmalKarumannil@tehseenp Then you should read more.
Kerala had 48% literacy right after independence (1951), when India was at... 18%! Thank the princely states, early social reform, and christian missionaries.
So no, it wasn't largely the communists - they played a small but important part.
@mjovanovictech@davidfowl It's half complete work, quite useless. What was needed was a general rule to map dirs to namespaces and filenames to classes implicitly - instead of special casing just the entry point file in an app.
@ohmypy TypeScript is any day better than golang, an utterly inexpressive language.
We're making TS compile to pure native binary - https://t.co/AQVUsLYVQ6 . It already works as an early preview, and will drop v1 by May.
@davepl1968 Nothing.
Millions of people who can't code were able to automate a machine for the first time. That mind-bending moment when _your_ first C program said "hello" happened to them and they hyped this project into a spectacle.
@2ALEFTY@EERandomness@lafaiel Take tsmc out, and Apple is left at roughly the same perf as Qualcomm, though marketing and fanboy enthusiasm will have you believe otherwise.
Example: Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is faster in multicore than Apple's latest, and roughly equal in single core. Why? Same node.
@2ALEFTY@EERandomness@lafaiel Uhh ... no.
Armv8-A had already shipped in 2011 (xgene). What Apple did was adopt it for the phone. In response to GP implying Apple that played a big role in inventing ARM64.
iPhone 5s shipped in 2013. ARM64 was already shipping.
@EERandomness@lafaiel And TSMC. The Apple thing has been parroted by fanboys - if true, it's only to the extent of them buying TSMC capacity ahead of everyone else.
