@grouchygauchos Every modern economy is a mixed economy: private enterprises and publically/governmentally owned enterprises. Yes, one can push for more enterprises to owned by the public/government, but capitalism can't be "replaced," unless you want to outlaw family run businesses.
@thomaschattwill I think Thomas Chatterton Williams is one of the most insightful and levelheaded public intellectuals alive. I’ve thus been surprised by his embrace of World Cup conspiracy theories (about Argentina). But I guess even the smartest among us become irrational when talking sports!
@cremieuxrecueil@reason SSRIs make some people feel better. Are they overprescribed? Probably. Do they have potential negative side effects? Sure. But people should have the right to bodily autonomy, and the government shouldn’t be telling anyone what drugs they can and cannot take.
@Tyler_A_Harper Yes! But they haven’t lost much yet (not their analogous “spouse and kids” such as their tenure-track positions and institutional support).
@reggiebblue@atrupar Well, at least he admitted that he was the first Republican in two decades to win the popular vote in 2024 (which means, despite his previous bloviating, he didn't in 2016 and 2020).
@DavidAFrench And, yes, the right should condemn those who want to violently overthrow the US government (or those who have already attempted to do so, including the current President).
@DavidAFrench I’m not surprised. Self-proclaimed proclaimed Marxists and Maoists have long been on the fringes of the left. But they are too few in number and are too busy fighting among themselves to be taken seriously. Yet, the DSA should condemn anyone who supports violent revolution.
@conor64 Sadly, he won't be the last. The trigger-happy agents shouldn't be shooting anyone (even a known illegal immigrant) unless the person poses a deadly threat.
@ContraireSous@csoandy@nickgillespie Again, where is the evidence of widespread fraud? Nobody can produce any. All critics can say is that the "system" is "designed" (by whom, a shadowy cabal?) for widespread fraud. But there isn't any.
@csoandy@nickgillespie Please, tell us about these practices and how they are "designed" to produce zero evidence. Or are the practices so secretive that they can't be identified? If so, you are presenting a non-falsifiable claim. You might as well assert that ghosts are manipulating elections.
